Ten year old grandson got a new Savage rifle in .270 on Christmas morning. Sighted it in Christmas afternoon. This afternoon while walking in to their stand, SIL and grandson spotted several deer milling around their stand. They belly crawled approx 20 yards to a fence line. Grandson settled in against a fence post approx 100 yards out from the deer. This guy stuck his head up. One and done. Not his first deer, but his biggest to-date...

Congrats to all.
If a new rifle will do that everytime I may need to trade more often!! LOL ! I may have to try that. The good news is that he is not yet reading internet forums. So, he is not aware that it is impossible to kill anything with a .270. I'm not going to tell him either... I think current plan is this will be his elk rifle in a couple years when he turns 12 and is old enough to hunt in Colorado. I appreciate all of the positive comments...
