Thank you...When I headed down to do the trade & hand over the cash, I was having serious second thoughts about going through with the deal...but as soon as I picked it up, I had no doubts about it...

His & hers. I bought the Blue Sky Productions import with a Winchester receiver for $150 at a show years ago. The Inland came in a package deal, and I really don't have anything in it. We much prefer shooting these over any AR.

In my opinion, handloading is the way to go with these. Ammo used to be cheap and plentiful for them...no more.

Had my wife pick up this little universal M1 carbine the other day for $200 plus the gas it cost to drive 60 miles round trip, and it came with one 15 round mag.

I then went on line and found four more 15 round magazines, GI sling, scope base and rings (got an M8 4X needing a home), and 500 rounds of S&B 110 FMJ ammo for $311 shipped. So even though it isn't a GI M1, I still felt I did very good for just over $500 out the door. I'm still undecided about mounting the 4X scope on it, but at least I'll have the option of doing so.

Nice guns, guys! These little carbines are a HOOT to shoot, which is why my wifey will not get to come anywhere near mine if we ever go shooting before I sell it. I have lost more good guns that way..... "OOHHHHHH! This one is SOOOO cute! And fun! Can't you sell one of your varmint rifles instead of this one?..."

I made the mistake of telling her I had about 6 rifles just for shooting rodents one time. BAD idea and tactic my brothers!

So, other than the two big scoe steal of a deal items above, are the carbines going for panic type prices a la the AR's at all, or still under $500 for a non mil type and still well under $1K for an inland machine/GM, etc?

I don't think M1 carbines are gonna get caught up in the panic buying Mark...Ammo is not as readily available & ballistics are anemic compared to the classic "assault" rifles...My concern as far as the M1 carbine goes is that legislation will be aimed at limiting magazine capacity to 10 rounds...the only aftermarket 10 round mag I've tried, (pro mag) is as sloppy a fit as I've ever seen...If such legislation is passed, finding a magazine that fits & functions properly may become a problem...

See how many you'll be able to find if it suddenly becomes a federal felony to buy or sell one...

The bayonets were not added until late 1944 and from then on added every time one when into the Armory. Plenty of facts in the books to support this...
They were never meant to be front line weapons, support troops and some officers,MP's and drivers and cook staff mostly.

I still have about half a case of Winchester White Box .30 Carbine that I bought about fifteen years ago. No longer have an M1 Carbine, though.

So...

Any idea what an "average" condition Plainfield M1 carbine would bring nowdays??

It has a GI web sling and 4-15 round mags. Wood stock with metal handguard.

Picked up two Korean mfg. 15 round mags, new in the paper container for $12. apice at last weekends gunshow.

Thanks! Virgil B.
