The models now shown on their website... http://www.ruger.com/products/m77HawkeyeAfrican/models.html
... are unsightly as they can be. It was such a fine looking rifle before, the right aesthetic for the model.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder, personally I think a 416 ruger with a muzzle brake makes a good deal of sense

First time I saw this. Bout time they offer the 416 in a piece of wood. Probably gonna make me buy one. Does anyone know if the brake is removable?

brake is removable and rifle comes with a barrel weight that, according to Ruger, will keep the same POI. There is also a thread protector if you don't want to use the brake or weight.

The brakes do ruin the looks of them. I don't know why anyone would want one.

They did improve the stock looks with the ebony forend tip, and it appears to be actual ebony plugs over the crossbolt now instead of just metal showing. The muzzlebreak idea was idiotic, and I'm guessing Boddington had something to do with these new Rugers. Even worse it the Guide Gun. It has the same stupid break and uses the half asses adjustable length of pull that the Scout rifle uses.

Why didn't they just think of installing a decent recoil pad on it, and scrap the whole idea of the stupid break. Anyone can add one on later, but why should we have to pay to remove one?

They've made them for two years now. I want one. Makes sense if you only want two or three rifles. But of course, stuff that makes sense never sells and they get dropped...

To sort of rip off Crimson Tide from another thread, maybe they should change the name from Ruger African to "Ruger African-Engineering"....

I'm glad I found one in 9.3x62 last year - looks like they dropped it. I do like the ebony forend tip - I've been considering adding one to mine. The muzzle break doesn't do anything for me...

they do funky stuff alright. Looking at the #1 and they have a .222 in the 1A and 6.5-284 in the 1V...not much else, but not boring that is for sure.

Very true - some of there recent No. 1 chamberings in old classic cartridges is a good example (and I've bought a few of them). Then there is the 17 Hornet that just followed me home - I am weak...

Feel free. I wouldn't doubt that they ship an ostrich feather in the box with each rifle, along with a gift certificate for a free 40 ounce Malt Liquor.
