On my way to try calling for a few minutes today I spotted a nice cross fox at a local dumpsite. I high tailed it downwind to a nice little ridge and ranged it at 365yards chewing on a deer carcass. Let the little 25 grain Berger fly and layed it out on the spot. Between my trap line and calling I'm at 7 dogs in three days. Life is good!

What did that thing weigh?! It looks as big as some coyotes I've seen!

This was a young adult at 22lbs. We get about one per season over 30.
I get most of my fox with snares on my trapline. I really should bring the camera with but they usually look like drowned rats out there. It rains almost every day.

I'm keeping all my pelts to make bedspreads so far but should have a bunch extra by the end of this year. The only ones I've sold have been to taxidermists and I get pretty good coin. $250-$300. My father is going to get a king size silver fox bedspread for his birthday this spring.

Way to go. It's crazy how big they get down there.

How is the deer looking this winter on the island so far?

Very nice, great pics.

I have a cross fox taken on Kodiak by a friend years ago while stationed there in the Coast Guard. It is HUGE, and it is PRIME... makes the coyotes taken in this state look like scrawny mice. Easily one my nicest pelts. Mike is stationed there again after a stretch in FL, will finish his hitch and retire there, bought a house and he and his family will stay there. He now hunts with a very nice Cooper I sold him just for fox in 17 Ackley Hornet. He also sent me a dark phasee blue fox years ago he shot out in the Bering Sea on the Pribilof Islands, also prime and closer to solid jet black than brown. While we have grey, kit, red/cross fox here, they just don't compare.

Those things look huge! But if that one was only 22lbs, I'm guessing that they are a lot of show. What I mean by that is that their fur must be thick and long.

I'd rather have a bad day hunting than a good day working!
