Is there much of a market for Ruger No. 1's in .243 Winchester among hunters who will actually take them into the field?
My guess, as a non-hunter, is that if a hunter was taking a No. 1 into the field, especially in a relatively short barreled version like the RSI, he or she would rather something with a bit more oomph.
What say the Forum?
My question is motivated because my rifle habit consists of buying rifles, keeping and shooting them for a while, and then selling them to make room for the next toy. As such, I like to get rifles that hunters actually use. That way I have a better chance of being able to sell them for close to what I paid.
A Ruger No. 1 in .243 would be fun to shoot because of the low recoil and relatively low price of the ammo, but I think a No. 1 in 7 mm, .270 or .30-06 would be more mainstream.

Well you are entitled to your assessment of the value of a #1RSI in 243 win. That configuration is far from novelty. RSI tend to keep resale value and may increase in value. They tend to be pleasingly accurate and effective calibers.
Beware of thieves, scammers and dishonest members on the "Fire" classifieds. Ya there is a thief here too. Whatever!!
They're all around the CampFire and everywhere.

Well, considering a TTSX, NPT, or heck even a bonded cup and core bullet will easily blow through both sides of a deer or hog at 200yds, I don't see where one would need more oomph. Even at a potentially reduced velocity from a shorter barrel there's still plenty of power for good ol deer hunting. Plenty of deer have died from much lesser rounds.
As for the rifle itself...shorty, light, quick to shoulder, low recoil, and very unlikely to need a second shot. What's not to like?
...on earth as it is in Texas.

I have a buddy that's has been deer hunting with a Ruger m77RSI in .22-250 for about 15 years and won't go back to anything else. He uses the factory iron sights, and hunts it like it is a 30-30. It seems like a horrible choice, but he is a slayer with it.

It depends,I am a old man now so I am set in my ways bad!!! My girls wanted a Deer Rifle to hunt with so I looked around awhile for a "Perfect" rifle they could share. I found a Lipseys Limited Ruger RSI 77 Stainless 7mm-08 over in B`HAM at large gun store with factory box and manual. It ran me more than I really wanted to pay but it was for my 2 girls so what the HELL! They took one look at it and said NO!!!!!!!!!!! To heavy,to short,so I have had it for awhile now and no takers locally. I AIN`T giving it away so it will gather dust in the safe till I croak soon then the girls will sell it for far less than what I spent for it. AMRA

Well not a #1. But I have a 77rsi in 243 and it proved very capable on an average sized doe I shot a couple of years ago. DRT at about 200 yds and I would expect the same performance from the #1. So if is what you want it s/b fine unless you shoot at extremely long ranges where you would want a bit more weight and possibly a bipod and Hubble type scope

Too heavy, too short,so I have had it for awhile now I was asking about the Ruger No. 1 RSI. Why are you telling us about your weight and height?
