Rick 99 and mad dog,
sorry for the delay in getting back to you on my 99-E.
Here is the info. and I'll try to get pic's if you want. Just rember, it is my hunting gun and it's been used a lot! I even had to break down and refinish the stock and butt after an unfortunate fall about 10 years ago.
Info:
bought 1982 in Weisbauten Germany.
Serial # 984997
Barrel marking: Savage model E Series A
Westfield Mass. Cal. 300 sav
barrel stamp: 91 31 SPG (or 6?)
all i could make out on the lever boss was a single mark look like a vertical stamp, maybe I.

The A Series rifles had a letter stamped in front of the serial number. It is that letter that we are in need of.

A lot of the late 99E's had counter windows...using up old stock of receivers, I guess.

They might get listed that way if they are rough, but mine is stamped very plain on the barrel.
