I am not into a man thing about shooting heavy kickers but I have shot a few.
About the worse for me was an old 06 springfield bolt with a metal butt plate.

A very early cheap sap wood 264 Winchester westerner. Shot it 5 times and handed back to my brother and said,"nice rifle". powdr

My Brother in Laws, ill stocked .300 magnum.
California style, roll over comb, angular egros and a skinny little rifle butt pad - makes this thing the worst recoiling rifle I've ever had the misfortune to shoot!
After shooting that thing, shooting one of my .338's was a breeze!

The hardest would be a Ruger #1 .458 Win Mag which I shot several times, but it wasn�t painful.
The most painful by far was a Marlin .444 with a scope. I was driving 240 grain bullets as fast as possible, up near 2200 fps IIRC (long time ago) and the dropping, sharp comb of that SOB whacked my cheekbone like a baseball bat every time I fired it. It gave me the worst flinch I ever had. It cured me of ever wanting a .45-70 in a Marlin.

For me it was a .460 Wby,the stock does not fit me well and of course I didn't believe it and had to shoot the second shot.I've shot several .470's.500's,510 Wells and a .577 that didn't hurt like that.

A Remington 700 XCR in .300 RUM that my friend has. I hand load for him, so I get to do the load development as well. The cheap plastic stock sux and the HUGE eye piece on the Nikon mounted on it scares me every time I shoot it. I'm thinking one of these days that I'll get scope bit by that thing.

An 1,100# Holstein Friesian that tatooed me but good many years ago. She was an ornery bitch from the get-go, but when I wound up on crutches due to a broken leg she'd given me, she had "burger" written all over her.
Enjoyed every bite, and doubly-enjoyed every flush.

8th birthday - my grandfather's Ithaca 12ga SxS with exposed hammers. It had a malfunctioning trigger group that most of the time fired both barrels if you pulled the front trigger - which was required to prove your manhood! Steel butt plate and cracked grip probably added to the pain. It was a family rite of passage and all the grandsons had to do it. Not sure whether the hype from my older cousins on the run-up to it or the actual shot was worse. Without an adult behind us, the shot probably would have put us on the ground. No doubt would be classed as child abuse today...

Oh, we're talikin' firearms - my bad.
Took a couple turns with a .500 Smith and Wesson, that rated right up there.
As to shoulder-fired, the grenade launcher left an impression.

Tikka 270 I got at the RMEF banquet. Fired it 7 times and sold it to a guy after warning him it kicked like the devil. To put in context, I have shot quite a few bigh rifles, up to and including 458 mag, but none hurt me like the Tikka.
Some mornings, it just does not feel worth it to chew through the straps!~

The EXACT same old 12 ga. double that would fire both barrels at the same time! this was back in the 60`s I was a little fella then busted and bloody on the ground with my Father and His brother laffing their asses off at my bloody face and broke nose! 416 RM. Fired once. Never again  One of the more memoriable, when young a 30/30 w/metal plate, my grandfather's sweet 16, no pad (and I was little), and a 7 RM in a Sako w/a stock design that just was bad in recoil transmission to your shoulder. No I just enjoy mild rounds and kill game as dead as when I used my first rifle - an ADL 700 in 7RM.

on the other hand, it was fun with general purpose/birdshot. lightweight little howitzer

I have a Win 1300 FTWT 12 ga w/3" chamber. For turkeys I have and shoot Fed Premium 3", 2 OUNCES of shot. YEP it does get your attention but it does not hurt. My HARDEST kicker (it DID HURT) was a Ruger 77, tang safety, red (THIN) pad in 338 WM. It really did HURT every time I shot it. I did load development and chronod and shot groups with it but NEVER enjoyed it. I could, and it would print 1" or less w/225 grainers. I believe it was the LACK of a recoil pad. I have an 8 RM and loaded and shot a Rem 700 BDL 375 HH and BOTH were more pleasant to shoot.

At one time I owned a Weatherby MKV in .460 and a Ruger No1 in .375 H&H. The .460 was frisky but the .375 was painful. It was the most awful kicker I ever owned. Can't imagine what a No1 in .458 would be like.
