My .375 Ruger is built on a FN action with a 21" McGowan barrel. With 81 gr of RL17 and 270 gr Hornadys, I'm getting +/- 2750 fps. With Barnes bullets of the same weight, I'm getting around 2710.

were there any issues or, rather did any feeding issues crop up when building her up? what sort of BM are you using and is it a 3+1 setup? can you offer pics?

We used the stock bottom metal from the original M50 JC Higgins(.270 Win). There may have been some filing done on the insides of the mag box to get a bit more width. Box length at 3.34" was fine . After the mods to the rails, feed ramp and follower, all functions are smooth and flawless. It is a 3+1. The extractor has beem modified to allow it to snap over a round fed directly into the chamber. Just under 9 lbs all up.

With original 1950's stock

I picked up several jugs of RL17 and Barnes TTSX .375 250gr bullets. I checked the barnes website and they don't list data for the 250gr ttsx. I also emailed Barnes and I haven't heard back from them.

Can anyone give me some info here on this combo?

Thanks

I think people are working with 270 gr data as a starting point.

I *really* wanted that combination to work for me and my 20" Ruger Alaskan, but alas, it was not to be. I tried charge weights and COAL's all the way up and down the spectrum and tried to stay 'accuracy oriented' and not 'velocity obsessed,' but I never found a sweet spot for my rifle.

4007 SSC gave good (very) accuracy, but velocity was ridiculously low so I kept searching...

The magic combo finally came with Varget:

74 gr Varget, 250gr Barnes TTSX, Fed 215 primer, C.O.A.L. 3.347, Lee Factory Crimp for 2727 fps.

They group like this:

This same load gave me equally great results with the 270 TSX, 3.300" COAL at around 2650fps - which gives me options if I can't find the TTSX's.

I plan to see how this works with the new (but not yet available) 250 GMX from Hornady when I can get my hands on some.

I'm getting 2900 fps with the 250-gr TTSX and 86 grs of H4350 and accuracy of 1.25-1.40" for groups of three.

With 85 grs of H4350 and the 260-gr AB I'm getting 2880 fps and about the same accuracy. This is from the African with a 23" tube.

These were both my max loads with these bullets and this powder. Velocity was very good and accuracy very acceptable for intended use.

I've yet to try R17 which I will but thought this would provide some context for those trying the R17 loads.

Did you already call Alliant and ask them for the data? They probably have something, or at least good advice.

Got out today in spite of 15+ mph winds but was able to hit a sweet spot with 82 grains of R17 pushing the 260-gr N Accubond to ~ 2860 fps. The best part was I was able to manage two ten-shot groups that averaged 1.5". This is from the African's 23" tube.

As the various pro sport personalities are wont to say, "I got into a rhythm", in spite of the variable wind.
