One of the first generation H&R single shot shotguns. Before they started putting the real fat barrel on them. Small little buttstock with a hard plastic buttplate. This one was in 10 gauge and we shot some 3.5 inch buckshot loads. It was brutally painful.

I have always that Lee Enfield .303 British rifles had terrible recoil, probably from the stock design. I have also talked to owners of jungle carbine 303s and the recoil is not pleasant.

I changed My mind, I shot a buddy's Harrington Richardson single shot 12 Ga. 3.5" Turkey shotgun that kicked the hardest (I only shot that SOB with a 3.5" turkey load one time)...................Hb

Another vote for the Mossberg 835 12 gauge with 3.5" shells. I quit using those shells and find that 3" shells kill turkeys quite nicely.
I've shot a couple of book max rounds through a 7 lb Encore 416 Rigby that didn't hurt me like that Mossberg does. I've got a 416 Rem mag that weighs 10 lbs scoped and it doesn't hurt me from the bench with 400 gr Partitions at book max charge but I won't shoot the Mossberg from the bench. My 835 has shot a bunch of turkeys. That thing is a pussycat though compared to a 535, which is Mossy's lightweight 3.5 inch shotgun. I think it weighs a pound less that the 835. Truth be known, I take women and kids turkey hunting, and a field load in 2.75 inch and 5 shot will kill every turkey there is at 50 yards beyond which most have no reason to shoot at. You aim at the base of the neck and they are smoked.

One of my bud's shot at a turkey with one of those and broke his collarbone. He was laying prone, though.

A Savage bolt action 12GA slug gun my ex FIL has, he handed it over to me and I found out right away WHY!!!!, with the Winchester slugs we were shooting it was downright OBNOXIOUS! My Marlin 1895M with a SHORT eye relief scope is hard on the bridge of the nose!!, the GF just shook her head when my nose quit bleeding and I ratcheted another round into the chamber!

I have a Pre-64 264 Win Mag that is absolutely brutal on my shoulder. I hate shooting it.

For me it would have to be a Ruger Number 1 chambered for the 458 Lott. If I shot a few rounds on a Friday afternoon, I'd have to put a sign over my eyes that said....... "CLOSED FOR THE WEEKEND" Best GWB

I don't think there is anything much worse than an old single shot Long Tom 10 ga with that straight no drop splinter they called a stock.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost....

I had a Rem. 788 Carbine in a light plastic ramline stock with no recoil pad that really got my attention at the range one day when I was zeroing some 180gr 308 win. What a little mule.
