Took the family and one of my sons little buddies to a small ranch that I have access to, to try and get their little buddy his first deer, and let my boys punch a few doe tags. Youth season is open till Jan. 20th. This ranch is about 25 miles from where I normally hunt sheep. I have hunted this ranch off and on for the last 10 years. I have never seen sheep on it. Heck, its so NOT rough, I see pronghorn antelope on it. We arrived at the ranch running a little late. I stopped and glassed a few places and then headed for a small hill that overlooks a creek. We parked the truck and me and the family with one extra friend headed for the edge to hopefully find some deer to throw a stalk on. We arrived at the edge in as quiet of a fashion that 5 of us could. NOT. I just got to the edge, and heard something jump and start running down the hill. When the noise finally cleared the cedars, I realized it was a monster ram. A quick decision that this ram was something special, I threw up my rifle, gathered him in the scope and let the first one fly. A clean miss. The ram found another gear, and was now 250 and running straight away from me. The 2nd shot didnt miss. I was above the ram. The 200 gr. combined technology bullet out of the 338 RUM, entered in the back of the neck, and exited the rams mouth. And hit the turf he did, in a cloud of dust. I knew the sheep was big, but I had no idea how big he was until we got to him. He is 34 1/8 on the left and 34 1/2 on the right. But what is so impressive about this ram is his mass. 13 inch bases, and you cannot reach around his horns 4 inches from the tips. He is so heavy that he looks short looking head on at him. This is 2nd biggest ram that I have ever killed or had a client kill with both his length and mass combined. And, I got to do it with my family. I killed a 36 inch ram 13 years ago, and have had clients kill a few 35 inchers. It was all me and my wife could do to get him to the truck and load him. His body was huge. He was bumping 300lbs, I dont know where this ram came from. He is 20 miles from any established herd that I know of. Toby Joe

No luck with punching any doe tags last night. Went back again this morning and seen a few but was unable to get it done.

Very cool! That's about the only exotic that I'd really like to go after. They make a gorgeous mount too.
