Picked this one up for the wife for her Birthday. Always thought these were pretty neat. Seller said it was dated 1890 and came out of an apartment building in Chicago. I haven't seen it yet, so I don't really know anything else about it. When I get home and can pull some model info off of it perhaps I'll learn a bit more about it.

Not sure what we'll do with it yet, may install it in the cabin or the bunkhouse, might just clean it up and put it in the house as a talkin' piece.
Picked it up for $750, but it looks like it could be worth a bit more. She's been wanting one of the full on antique parlor/cook stoves, so I may clean it up and trade it in on one of those.
They really are pretty cool...

Looks like legs and base is missing. The top part was nickeled on the one we had. Really pretty stoves but will not hold a fire worth a darn. Put it someplace nice and just enjoy it as a work of art and a wonderful piece of history. Burn it for evening pleasure.
Really a great find.

Yep, looks like the base is missing.
I found an old Detroit Stove Works catalog online that lists this as the "Candent" model. Supposedly had nickel on it at one point as accents, and bronze arms.

Very nice, good stuff. We run this modern Quadrafire (thanks to forum members here a couple of years ago) in our Texas home to save a few bucks. It works amazingly well given its size. but really enjoy a couple of relatively oldies in our place in north Idaho. This early 1900's Monarch we often cook with and as can be seen in JW's last movie, The Shootist. and this early 1970's Fisher. The pioneer of modern woodstove technology today as I understand.

Looking into it a bit more, it appears that they make gas conversion kits for these.
Anyone ever go that route with one of these old coal/wood stoves?

EdM,
Love that old Monarch of yours, its pretty much exactly what the wife has been wanting.
She can either keep this one or see if she can trade it off for a full range similar to yours.
