I picked one up ,really like the heavy 20" barrel. The stock is a nice hogue with aluminum pillars so it may be sturdy. Any of you guys have any advice for a muzzle brake that works good on this rifle,i will never own a supressor most likely. I have some 175's loaded up for te 1-10" twist, hope to try them out this weekend if the rain lets up.

American Precision Arms makes one that will reduce a lot of recoil.

Unless you have a medical condition, the recoil of a 300 aac could not be worth mentioning. Even though heavier slugs, they move so slow its going to be a push rather than antyhing else, and not much of one at that.

Oh, my bad I guess, I see AAC and that means 300 whisper. Sounds like a sorta dumb way to name a rifle chambered in 308.

I run 308 with 185s all the time in my bolt gun. Wouldn't think of putting a brake on it personally.

Then again when I position shot palma a lot,70 rounds or so in a morning of 185s or 210s would get on your nerves after a while at times.

I have one, but it's thrown in the thinner hs stock. I'm currently running factory hornady 168 amax in her for hunting. It shoots nice little groups with the hornady, but really shines with federal gold match. I have a yhm suppressor about two months out! Can't wait to try her out suppressed.

i've noticed some boxes of ammo say '308' & some say '7.62x51'. is it ok to shoot the ones that say '7.62x51' out of a remington 700 when the barrel says '308'?...anyone?...

same ammo though depending on the surplus 7.62 it may be a bit hotter. Just like 223 and 5.56... I've only run into a few instances where 5.56 is hot enough and the 223 is a tight enough chamber that it had pressure issues.

US factory 7.62x51 would be no problem in 308

I love the rifle but I hate Hogue stocks. B&C makes a nice replacement. I can't see any reason for a muzzle break on anything short of a .50 BMG rifle.

I believe 7.62X51 would be safer........

Funny hating hogue but replacing with a chit(IMHO) BC stock.

The Hogue is fat, hideous, and rubber like. It feels terrible in your hands. The B&C is light and rigid and I've had great sucess with them. Anything above the B&C price range simply isn't worth the money.

Funny, the hogue feels good to me. And I've had a BIL thats had two BC stocks crack on him.

Of course the AR feels right to me too but didn't at first. I was liking the big fat feel of the M14 stocks but got to the point they feel weird a bit now.

I simply use Mc Millan and don't worry about it at all. A5 for most of my guns except a couple of lighter carry hunting guns.

If I remember correctly, the 308/7.62 NATO correlation is the exact opposite of the .223/5.56 issue. 7.62 NATO is loaded to a lower maximum pressure than .308 Winchester.

As for the stock issue. The Hogue is [bleep], even the full length bedding version. A Bell and Carlson, the bargain basement of stocks, is worlds better in the areas of fit and rigidness.

If you bed a B&C stock it will crack. It says so in the instructions that come with it. I can't afford the McMillan nor am I willing to wait months to get one.

Funny, as I have two B&C stocks in the safe, both of them bedded. Neither have cracked. One has even been cut for a DBM, and that bedded as well.

I read the instructions that came with mine which said not to bed it.
