I was wondering if any of you would be willing to let me know your pet loads for the 40 S&W. I would also like to know what the best powders are for this cartridge.

I run 5.8 gr's of universal clays in mine with the 180 gr. Hornady XTP bullet. I also run the same powder and charge wt for my 45 acp with 230 gr. XTP pills....Works damn good. However, If I could get my hands on some power pistol I'd probably be using that instead....
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I'm using up a 4# can of IMR4756. 6.0 gr. under a 180 gr. HCSWC in Speer cases gives me a nice practice load. Gets about 1000 fps. Runs pretty clean, no flash to speak of. Shoots to the sights and stays well under 2 inches out to 15 yards. (Glock 22 with aftermarket cut rifled barrel.) When I run low I will use some Viht. I have been using a 200 gr. HCSWC .45 ACP load with VV310, and it's been money in at least 5 different pistols. (1911's, Sig. Glock and Para.)

8.7g of AA#5, 150g Nosler 1125-1150 depending on the pistol.
This is a devasting load on large dogs!
4.4g of Clays with a 165g Copper coated bullet, powder puff load for practice
just got some information on the 40 S & W with a powder called long shot.
135g at 1500 fps
150g at 1350
I would use brand new brass for these loads!
AA#5 is a very clean buring powder.

I run my .40 on the warm end and like Power Pistol with 155 & 180g cast bullets. Out of a Glock 27 with a standard length barrel I'm getting the 155's to 1300fps an the 180's to 1175fps. That's moving and not for every shooter but works great in mine.
Work up your loads, and all that stuff.

4.5 Titegroup with a 180. Supposedly around 978 fps but I've not Chronoed it. Pussycat load, burns clean and super accurate out of three different Glock 22's and a 27. Max is 4.7 according to Hodgdon.
