I'm helping a colleague find an original Super Sporter 30.06 black walnut stock. His was manufactured in 1940. Doesn't have to be flawless. Any direction or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks

That will be tough. Stocks for Super Sporters show up very seldom. Probably the best bet would be to find an otherwise damaged whole rifle on GunBroker.com (i.e one that had been after-market drilled and tapped for a scope) and then salvage the stock from it. It won't be a cheap proposition.
I believe there's been a guy on eBay recently who has been selling aftermarket walnut stocks for the Super Sporter.

That is in line with what we were anticipating....used gun for parts. Doesn't want to put a lot of cash into it but feels it is worth some (personal value). I checked Ebay last week. There is one out there, but not what this guy is looking for.
