Not sure where else to post this.
Long story short, I filled out a Money order and then a deal fell through. Now I have the MO with the receipt and want to get my money back out of it. Reading the Postal regs it says Not refundable but can be reissued if one has been damaged or spoiled. My questions, has anyone here been through this before and what is the best thing to do? First thought of course is to damage it and get a new one then make it out to myself. BUT once damaged I can't undo it so I'm gambling that it would in fact work. Thanks for any help offered here.

I'd just take it back to the PO, they'll likely cash it without an issue.

If you've already made it out, Sign the back, and write "not used for intended purpose" under that, and the post office will cash it for you. If you haven't made it out yet, just make it out to yourself, and they will cash it. Either way, they will cash it for you.

Mike Even after being filled out? ( I should have stated that being my problem) I figured it might be a one shot deal with the PO. I feel much better asking those with experience and knowledge than trusting the PO.

^^^ Yes, you're way over thinking this, your name is on it too as the sender of the MO isn't it? They'll cash it, no worries.

Don't worry Launchingrounds, I didn't know any of this info. either.
It was a good question. I've learned a couple things here on the forums the last couple days.
One, guys at gun shops can be complete un-educated dick-heads when it comes to shipping guns and now this about the money orders.
Good info.
Know guns. Know peace. Know safety. No guns. No peace. No safety.

Do This EXACTLY!!! DO NOT SCRIBBLE THE NAME OUT!!!! THEY WILL NOT CASH IT IF YOU DO THAT!!!!! I had the same thing happen to me before and the bank told me to write not for intended purpose and sign my name under it and they would cash it but if I scribbled the name out and put mine in they would NOT cash it or deposit it as they would consider it as tampered.
Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money but we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money. What's interesting is the first group WORKED for their money but the other group didn't.
