Checkered keeps the hands warmer when carrying in the winter. So, for hunting, I would vote for checkered.
And figure out some way to make a lightweight Ruger stock please!

All of mine are checkered, and I don't really have a big desire to try the textured. Same for me too

Dick,
If youre looking for ways to create more interest in rifle stocks, (i.e. sales), Id take a long hard look at Rugers discontinued (super tough) Zytel skeleton stock. Check out pricing on the used market for the skeleton stocked SS - SA rifles on GB and elsewhere. (243s & 308s) going for over 1K.
Id be first in line for a similar stock available for a Remy Model (7) or 700!! Im sure the Winchester and Sako guys would line up as well.
Ill be happy to accept a minimal consultation fee in the form of a dozen or so Zytel skeletons with inletted actions of my choice, once production is underway!
Regards, DMc
PS: Oh my! The prospect of a Skeleton McSwirly is getting my heart started! Oh yeah! I could dig a boat paddle dupe on every rifle I own.

Ruger lightweight please, I promise to order one the first day.

Textured. I have a couple A series stocks and a few Compacts and definately prefer the texture over the checkering, both do the job of providing grip but texture looks great on synthetics especially a swirly, checkering not so much.

I'm exactly the opposite. I think texturing makes the stock look cheap. I much prefer checkering, or filled smooth.

Checkering, on a sporter gelcoat. For painted stocks, no checkering without the up-charge would be nice....

Checkering on a sporter, texturing on a tactical.

Never owned textured until recently, and it is way better than checkering in my opinion. Checkering is for wood.

The only thing I'm an expert at is my own opinion, and I have plenty of those!
