That show's too goofy for me but the fat farmer that was on one of the early episodes had a YouTube clip with some really good info. He mentioned that the Mormon church has canneries (open to the public) in many communities and that these canneries are an excellent option for picking up dry goods (rice, beans, oats, flour, etc.) at a very good price for long-term storage. I checked it out and we just happened to have one about 3 minutes from where I work! As a result, I was able to pick up a few hundred pounds of canned dry goods for dirt cheap. I hope I never need it and it's just $$ down the drain but it sure is nice peace of mind to know I have it just in case. If I tried to get that much food from one of the trendy "survival" sites, I would've paid 10x as much for 1/10th the amount! I hope others here check it out - you can thank me later..... If anyone is interested in doing the same, here's a list of the LDS canneries: (907) 746-3509 4350 S Bodenburg Loop Rd PO Box 2432 Palmer, Alaska 99645 (928) 527-3713 5021 Empire Ave Flagstaff, Arizona 86001 (480) 214-9114 235 S El Dorado Circle Mesa, Arizona 85202 (928) 536-3458 641 South Main #1 Snowflake, Arizona 85937 (928)337-3745 155 East Commercial Street PO Box 2338 St. Johns, Arizona 85936 (520) 514-9039 3535 S Richey Tucson, Arizona 85713 (530) 894-8302 1040 Marauder Street Chico, California 95973 (909) 824-1307 791 North Pepper Avenue Colton, California 92324 (925) 798-1763 1063 Detroit Ave Concord, California 94518 (714) 437-9205 17350 Mount Hermann Cir Fountain Valley, California 92708 (559) 255-2377 1425 North Rabe Avenue Fresno , California 93727 (323) 261-6351 2730 East 12th Street Los Angeles, California 90023 (916) 381-5150 8401 24th Avenue Sacramento, California 95826 (858) 279-5712 4722 Mercury Street San Diego, California 92111 (408) 986-1872 442 Nelo Street Santa Clara, California 95054 (209) 943-1892 3112 Loomis Road Stockton, California 95205 (818) 833-6696 15648 Roxford Street PO Box 868 Sylmar, California 91342 (303) 371-7650 3233 Fraser Street Aurora, Colorado 80011 (719) 550-1158 4090 Center Park Dr Colorado Springs, CO 80916 (970) 245-2011 2956 North Ave #2 PO Box 40148 Grand Junction, CO 81504-0148 (808) 841-6311 1120 Kalihi Street Honolulu, Hawaii 96817 (208) 678-0434 245 North Overland Dr PO Box 861 Burley, Idaho 83318-0861 (208) 375-7893 604 East 46th Street PO Box 140035 Garden City, Idaho 83714 (208) 529-2201 770 West Anderson St Idaho Falls, Idaho 83402 (208) 233-1937 590 Roosevelt Avenue PO Box 2013 Pocatello, Idaho 83201 (952) 891-3099 6890 145th Street W Apple Valley, Minnesota 55124 (314) 344-0313 12843 Pennridge Dr Bridgeton, Missouri 63044 (816) 453-2398 3601 NE Kimball Drive Kansas City, Missouri 64161 (406) 721-3197 6200 Industrial Way Missoula, Montana 59808 (402) 891-1577 13232 Portal Dr. Ste. 3 Omaha, NE 68138 (505) 343-1905 4400 Presidential Dr NE Albuquerque , New Mexico 87109 (505) 326-3506 925 Cannery Court Ste B Farmington , New Mexico 87401 (702) 631-2438 4455 Allen Ln North Las Vegas, Nevada 89031 (775) 856-2245 580 Reactor Way Ste 1 Reno, Nevada 89502 (405) 692-3883 11224 South Meridian Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73173 (971) 230-0770 10420 SE 82nd Ave PO Box 66160 Portland, Oregon 97086 (541) 726-9201 1690 South A St Springfield, Oregon 97477 (503) 633-4433 16572 River Road NE PO Box 429 St. Paul, Oregon 97137 (541) 826-4220 7575 Pacific Ave White City, Oregon 97503 512-252-2177 3912 Gattis School Rd Ste 104 Round Rock, Texas 78664 (972) 242-8595 1100 West Jackson Road Carrollton , Texas 75006 (915) 56601335 2910 Tularosa El Paso, Texas 79903 (281) 537-1786 16333 Hafer Road Houston, Texas 77090 (210) 520-1122 6880 Alamo Downs Pkwy San Antonio, Texas 78238 (360) 373-6028 288 Wilkes Ave Bremerton, Washington 98132 (509) 735-6455 6501 W Deschutes Kennewick, Washington 99336 (253) 852-8552 1412 West Morton Kent, Washington 98035-0825 (360) 424-0335 1524 Riverside Drive #14 Mt. My doomsday plan is to squeemishly hide in my crawl space. Fug alla you. I ain't tellin' where that is. I have a 100 lbs of Old Roy and lots o' bags of Fiddle Faddle. If some Kevin Costner type guy still delivers the mail, I will trade you chex mix and bud light for fiddle faddle. I am sorry but you will get the old bud light (it is only a couple weeks older than the other bud light)

There was one guy that was over 400 pounds. He didn't have a power chair so he used his lawn tractor! The experts suggested he lose weight! Wow. I've seen a couple episodes. I think it's a showcase for crazy people. With the exception of the people who have dug in and have a 'compound' with food, water, a garden, animals... I think the rest are toast.

Biden's most truthful quote ever came during his first press conference, 03/25/21. Drum roll please...... "I don't know, to be clear." and THAT is one promise he's kept!!!

Nebraska--- Your post was one of the most pertinent posts I've read in a long time!
Thanks for the heads up. I have store bought and home done (SHTF food)..but for the time and money I'd spend doing it myself I'd just as soon prefer paying the LDS. They are a great and valuable resource!
Thanks.

The skinny people will all die of starvation first when doomsday hits. By that time all the formerly fat people will be skinny & they'll come take your stuff after you're dead.

Stupid Sh!sts! Lady on tonight's episode said a ghost "told" her to start prepping!
When they all start buggin out, hope they don't come to TX! They will make for a target rich environment here at the Ranch.

With Texas now being the 2nd most populous state, I doubt you'll have to worry about people coming there to provide targets. 1. California 2. Texas 3. New York 4. Florida 5. Illinois 6. Pennsylvania 7. Ohio 8. Michigan 9. Georgia 10.North Carolina About 20% of the whole country's people live in California and Texas.

Some sort of catastrophic event is certainly possible. Since I live close to DC a dirty bomb is certainly a concern. There is almost a certainty there will be a terrorist attack some where in the near future & in addition to conventional explosives nuclear material &/or biological agents may well be used. The other major threat is a electromagnet surge from a pulse weapon that would destroy the power grid, computers, & everything electrical or electronic. The US military already has these weapons so its likely other countries do as well. All of that said most of these preppers are far over board. If a catastrophic event occurs the government will have been listening to conversations & computer chatter telling them where the private stores of survival food is located. You can bet that in the national interest these large food caches will be seized. Certainly it makes sense to store a reasonable cache of food & water to last a week or so during an emergency, but not thousand & thousands of dollars tied up.

I just can't watch the show. I am convinced that the whole affair is being done to discredit prudent folks, who are making an honest effort to prepare for a time of unrest. That would mean that every group of 'preppers' in this series is scripted, and shaped to portray them as idiots and stupid. The producers and writers have been very successful in that. No one makes fun of preppers though, during a 'Sandy' or other disaster, when they are able to care for themselves and their family, while others are out of bottled water on day one. I make no apology for my efforts to have on hand, things that I may well need.

Yeah, just about every single person I know that either lived through the depression, or was born shortly thereafter is in some way, shape, or form a prepper. They don't call it that, of course. But come some type of disaster I can promise you they won't be the ones roasting their cat and drinking their own pee and bitching about it on facebook.

I've worried about EMP for years because I think it's something that could very well happen. The whole idea of it sucks. I agree with everything you say until you get to the seizing preps part. Most "preppers" are people that buy ten guns and then have a bulk pack of Sam's toilet paper and a couple of cases of Evian and think they're set. I just don't see the Feds coming after stuff like that. If you're broadcasting all your preps on a website that many of your neighbors frequent, it could be a problem. Otherwise, the food the Feds would go after are steel bins full of grain, herds of cattle and the like. I agree with you that they would seize it. Expect to be paid in worthless FRNs' too.

I'm old enough to know a lot of folks that lived through the depression, especially since my parents both grew up in those troubled times. Personally, I think it made a lot of folks about half nuts. No offense or disrespect to the oldsters, but just being real... Most of them I knew resembled hoarders rather than preppers. I fail to see how a thousand Folger's coffee cans in the basement or a few hundred plastic butter cups is gonna save your asss. Most of the depression era folks I knew were too tight to buy much in the way of preps.
