At Mossy's, the local fly shop hangout, we are treated to a vision of the perfectly swimming Aztec. This fly was a gift to Skunkedagain from macrabbit and is part of Skunky's extensive private collection.

Nifty fifty!

Look at the action of that Aztec tail!
That's why they're tied on regular or 1XL hooks, not on XXXL streamer hooks- the Crest is for looks only, the silhouette of a body, while the tail is where the action is; so make the tail the prominent feature. And 1.5 inches is the minimum tail length that'll wiggle.

I'm guessing that was one I tied from Red Heart's Falling Leaves multi yarn.
I've had fun using the multis (similar to ombres but of different colors rather than shades of the same color). I usually use it just as it comes from the skein as I cut each element of the fly- no picking & choosing, no matching.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it's ugly. (That vid one falls in the latter category.)

Thanks for showing that. It ruins my hair-do when I have to get in the water to view my flies.

Aztec Swap due date April 1?

Let's keep that up in the air, wait for more tarpicitanps.

Sorry. Moving into a busy time of the year. Travel to meetings and 3 to 4 hunter ed classes to coordinate and run. Thanks for the thought though.
