I've looked quite a bit and I think I know the answer but am going to ask anyway. I've got a 1955 vintage 336 RC in .35 Remington that I'm working on. It needs a complete refinish, but looks promising. I'd like to be able to scope it and it's already D&T'ed, so will need a hammer extension. The Uncle Mike's don't fit because the early hammers are narrower, and the only other commercial one I've seen that looks like it might work is the Carlson's Universal. This one looks like it could be troublesome to keep on. Am I missing any other options? I do have some ideas for modifying the original hammer (or replace with later version), but would like to stay away from that if possible.

Would this work..?

I bought a 35 Rem. 336, mfg I believe in 1978, and it had this hammer extension on it when I received it.

I don't have a TON of 336 experience, but the hammer on that rifle is much slimmer than the other one(s) I've handled.

Seems to be extremely similar to a vintage Marlin one...

I don't think that will work but if you can give me dimensions of the T-slot I can check. The post 1957 hammers apparently have something of a T shaped cross section on the spur. The early 50's ones don't, so getting something to hang on to the hammer is a challenge.

If you find something let me know as I had to try and make one fit that didn't, it works but required filing and the tension screw fits under the hammer not directly flush on the side of the hammer. I have a 1953 sc .35 remington.

As pointed out in the original post, Uncle Mikes don't work on the old ones.
