Thanks for the info. I have shot 180nbt in my win mag for years. I just wondered if the extra weight and bc is worth it. Interest to hear velocity on the rl 22 and 180s

NMSSHOOTER,

You asked is there anything else? This is the long range hunting forum....How about trying the 230 gr Berger target hybrid? The BC of the bullet is .743 (G1) .380 (G7) Even though it is called a target bullet is a great LR hunting bullet. See link: http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f19/berger-230-300-otm-hybrid-terminal-results-80283/
The hunter in the link is shooting the bullet at 2775 fps.

When the RL-33 showed up I just had to try it with that 230 gr bullet. Worked up to 102 grs but accuracy load was 100 gr. Velocity was 2975 fps with a 24" barrel! Imagine what could be done with a 26" or longer barrel!

At 8000 ft, where I elk hunt, the bullet at 600 yds is traveling at 2553 fps with 3329 ft/lb with a stunning minimal wind drift of 8.5" in a 10 MPH 90 degree crosswind.

200 grain Accubonds shine very bright with 94-95 grains of Retumbo.

I have laoded for 3 rifles and all shot very well with Woodleigh's and Accubonds using AR2217 which is H1000 and Retumbo. Al were easy to find their best.

Not shooting the 230 hybrid out of your RUM is like owning a Ferrari and never going over 55mph. I am shooting the 230 over 91gr of H1000 at a COAL of 3.900 at 3010 fps 26"bbl plus the brake.I am running a wyatts mag in mine. This bullet has re-invented the 300 ultra mag. We have shot a few animals with these and they are deadly.

Not sure why, but I've only gunned 180s out of mine, other than a handful of 200gr Accubonds. What critters have you killed with those bullets? Any idea on if I can do a magazine mod to my Model 70 classic 300 RUM? 200gr Accubonds have to be seated pretty deep in mine and those are loaded to mag length.

You guys are making me crazy, waiting for my 300 to be completed! One more month and it should be up and running. I've got a nice selection of components laid back and can't wait to try some of them!

I have a 12ga. I don't need a 30-30.

Never put a Wyatt's in a win. However , I would load a few and single feed them just to see what happens. Taken elk black bears and deer .

i went the other way with my rum.
i am loading 165 gr. solid bases over rldr 22, and getting over 3500 fps.
i only pick this rifle when i go to my lr spots. i think blow up would be terrible at close range.
i was loading 150 tsx's, getting about 3600 fps, and killed a cow elk at 762 with it.
my .02.
figure out where and what you want to shoot for it, and find a bullet powder that fits those conditions with great accuracy, and rock on.
i like less flight time with lighter bullets.
wind isnt a real issue where i use it, but i do practice for it.
i think the lighter, faster, easier expanding bullets would do great on thin skinned gamed.
one day i'll find out with this gun ! maybe.....

i do like me 280ai too much, so this one just sits alot.

Has anyone tried the 230gr Bergers with Retumbo or H1000? I have a box and would like to get an idea on where to start with them.

Edit. Has anyone tried N570 or Re33 with the 200gr bullets?
