This is a remarkable project: making a gun that is entirely made on a 3D printer...

Here's an article from Forbes with more about it.

Talk about something that would change gun-control issues... whistle

I should add that these same guys (Defense Distributed) have already done the same thing with high-capacity magazines.

It's good to keep bringing this up. Though it hurts that you've not been reading my posts wink

What with 80% AR lowers, AK trunnions/templates and 3D printing, there will not be any practical way a ban can happen, even if enacted. The genie is out of the bottle. All the posturing is political theater.

A war on evil firearms and hideously dangerous high capacity ammunition feeding devices will be about a successful as the wars on drugs/poverty/illiteracy. i.e. not really at all...

D'oh! Sorry if you had already posted info about this. I looked before posting to see if maybe someone had already given the heads-up and I had missed it. I didn't see anything about it, but my search abilities are admittedly pretty weak...

While we are at it we should start cloning humans and every other extinct animal we can find a DNA sequence on. What could go wrong?

Don't be too sure... shooting geeks will! smile

All you need is:

1) a $US 500 PC running Windows 7

and

2) a 3D printer which start at $5000

In two days you could produce enough high-capacity magazines to pay for your system...

Your kumquats are turning very slow lap times. Must be due to their poor positronic deionization modulus.

There's a vibrant open source 3D printing community. Geared towards the idea of buying some of the components that cannot be printed or bought off the shelf, then finding someone local to 3D print you the custom mechanical parts. Then you can go on and 3D print some more custom mechanical parts to supply others looking to start 3D printing, or build 5 more printers...

Here's one example:http://www.reprap.org/wiki/Main_Page

One could be up and running for a lot less than $5K
