I bought my first Savage 99 tonight. I don't know what variation is it, but it has a 20" barrel with a case hardened barrel band. It's serial range is in the 3463xx range. Wood matches the serial number and no tang crack. Looks to be fired very little as the case hardening is about 90% on the lever. What can you tell me about it?

Yes there are receiver cheek pads on the rear stock.
It's too bad someone drilled and tapped it. Then again it is a nice light rifle. My '94 may sit this upcoming deer season.

Nice job! Are you reloading the 303 or shooting factory ammo?
Thanks for the info Norm. I didn't/don't know much about 99s, but I figured for $350 I would give it a try.

You did OK even with a D & T if its nice otherwise. What else could you buy for that money that looks better than the 99H barrel band? Nothin' I can think of.

I can't think of a nicer hunting rifle than a scope-ready barrel band carbine. I would have grabbed that rifle quick at that price. You did very well.
Find yourself a set of dies and some brass, and you can shoot the .303 pretty cheaply.

Dies and brass are next on the list. You can't buy much with a scope already on it for what I paid for it. Looking it over I don't know why I didn't try one of the 99s before.
The 99 is much classier looking than a new remlin 336.
How does the 303 compare to a 30WCF?

I had a pre 64 Model 94 carbine. After I bought the bbl band 99, that went down the road. And I don't regret that one.
You'll enjoy yours for sure. Try cast bullets too.

Pretty much exactly the same as the 30-30 (except for the higher nostalgia / cool factor with the .303).
Sure would be nice to see some pictures.

I tried to post some pictures but it said my files are too large. Any other way to post them?

I am sure the nephew and I will have a ball with it. The 300 H&H is a bit heavy for him.
