Is this a normal sized short action? I there is one locally for relatively cheap. It would be a great donor for a 260 if so. I'm just don't know if the action was scaled down or not for this short round. anybody know?

Is it the stainless/synthetic boat paddle stock with the wood grip inserts?

It's kinda collectible, enough that you might look for another donor. I'd buy it if I were you.

But is it a normal sized short action? I haven't seen it yet, and kind of want to snatch it up before it hits the paper. As with most donors it may never make the transformation

I just got off the phone with the guy, I'll stop by tommorrow after work and pick it up. Worse case scenario I can probably get my money back out of it. If it is a smaller action like the 77/357 It might make a fine 222.

Gus, I can tell you that the action is the same as the standard short action! I purchased one a few years ago, and the 1st thing I did was discard that abomination of a boat-paddle stock and install a standard walnut stock purchased off flea-bay... The bolt-face, however; is a different story. It has a smaller bolt face to accomadate the smaller case head. (.447" vs the .473" of the .260 case..) If yours shoots just half as good as mine does, you'll abondon any thoughts of using it for a donor.... Not to mention the "fun" factor...

At .447 it might make a dandy 6.5x54.

Sell it to me. But you might be better off listing on GB or Auction Arms. Don't know what your thoughts are on Savages, but I like the option of switching barrels/bolt heads to make whatever fits your action length.

Thanks! I'm sure I'll shoot it before I rebarrel it, and you know how that changes plans. I have a 260 but its on a savage, would like to have one on a ruger to match my .358,.338fed, and 7mm-08. The gentleman selling it says the only things wrong with it are, a small scratch on the boltknob from the safe, and the stock has become "hazy" over time. He didn't know a round count, but estimated 3 or 4 boxes of shells. I figured at $275, I couldn't go wrong.

Load some cases with the 125 grain Sierra ProHunter and stand by to be impressed.

I thought they were .308 and the owners manual says its OK to fire .311's thru it. I knew someone that owned one, and I thought thats what they are.

Are the Rugers .311" or .308"? I was told they were .308 by someone who answered the phone at ruger. This was around 2003 or so. I bought one that had been a Davidson's run. Kinda wish I still had it.

If I came across one at that price I'd buy it. Then I'd make some folks cry because IMO the 7.62x39 begs to be AI'd. I'd wager you could load it to 30-30 ballistics in AI form. More campfire looyism.

I purchased two rifles from the Davidson's run about twenty years ago. According to a Ruger rep., groove diameter on these rifles was .310"-.311". I shot jacketed bullets of various diameters and it seemed to make little or no difference.
