Last night we had a very wet snow and this morning the wifes ride has all the doors froze shut. Is there any trick to prevent this from happening? I rent for the time being so building a garage is not an option.

I typically put a big piece of plywood/other stiff board on top of the car the night before. Make sure that part of the board overhangs the windshield and driver door.

If it's just snow, you can easily pull the board off; little more difficult with ice, but it still works fairly well.

Put some vinyl protectant or silicone on the door seals. It helps prevent the ice from sticking ... to a degree.

Silicone spray on the door seals helps.

Thanks guys. I was not real pleased this morning to have to go out and unstick the doors. I will try the spray and see how it does.

Remote auto start, let warm up for 15 minutes, doors come right open.

Seriously, this morning I started it from the passenger side and let it run for almost 30 minutes and still had to send the daughter in to push from the inside while I pulled from the outside to get the drivers door open.

Besides being an annoyance, it's a good way to tear all the weatherstripping off the door.
Cover it with a tarp and use bungees to tie it down.

You wouldn't make it long in MN. ror.

Probably not. Most of the time the snow we get here is alot drier. I am hoping to avoid future damage and pain in the neck problems so that is why I turned to the experience here on the fire grin Some are just more experienced than others.

I encounter the same problem sometimes. I've used armorall on gasket surfaces and the door frame where they seal - it helps. I think something with more "body" would work better. I'm going to try a thin layer of vaseline.

Wipe some vegetable oil on the seals. I've done that for years. Works as good as anything.

Any number of above suggestions will certainly help.
If it's not a common occurrence you can simply pour some wind shield washer antifreeze down the door seam & quite often it will loosen ice & the door will pop right open.

I used to use an old remnant carpet I'd drape over the door and windshield, the pry marks weren't good for resale
