I was told by a local gun dealer that Colt was not going to manufacture any more AR15's for civilians to purchase.

Just wondering, if is this true ?

Based on reports from SHOT and the new products they're rolling out I find that hard to believe.

Well since Remington seems to have the mil contract, who else would they sell to? I'm pretty sure they'll still be turning them out for us civvies.

Keep in mind, There is two different Colt companies. Colt Defense makes all of the standard AR-15s. Colt Manufacturing does the handguns and the competition rifles and Colt's Custom Shop is attached to Colt's Mfg. I haven't been impressed with the management at Colt's Mfg for quite a long time.

Colt still has a huge mil contract. Remington's contract isn't as big as it sounds.

Either way, you don't dump that much money into a market, make a killing in it, and then walk away for no reason. That's my take anyway.

The one thing that bugs me about Colt is they use UAW workers in one of their plants for whatever reason.

They said that same [bleep] during the 1st A.W.B. & when the Brady Bill passed.

Many people also forget that Colt was the 1st Gun Corp. that did a deal with the devil & tried to build the "Smart Gun" for "our" saftey.

Fugg Colt & the horse "prancing pony" they road In on! cool

Ruger also played along but the only loss there was the high capacity magazines in the mini 14, so no big loss.

Everyone is of course welcome to their own opinions but at least try to have an educated opinion.

First off, Colt was owned by some anti gun people at one time, including the state of Connetticut. They tried to appease the govt to keep from banning them altogether which is a bad idea but they lost and the company was in bankruptcy a few times.

Fast forward to today and the company is driven to uphold the second amendment and is more civilian friendly than ever before. New owners, new leadership and a new commitment to quality.

What's that got to do with anything? I believe their main CT plant was always union.

Why, jealous of their wages and pensions? As long as they make a good product at a competitive pricepoint, who cares?

It's an arrangement that seems to work well for Colt and it's employees.

Gee I dunno, maybe I don't like putting money into the pocket of people and organizations that at every turn try to control or outlaw damn near everything I enjoy and the way I make a living.

Suprised so many people on a gun and outdoors forum like the UAW considering where their political money goes.
