I'm in the process of updating some equipment before turkey season. What broadheads are you guys using for turkeys? I've noticed over the years different parts of the country use different types/styles/brands. What about you?

Ive killed a few toms with 125gr thunderheads, but I was watching Double Bull Outdoors the other day, and they were useing a broadhead called the Geateen (sp?). They were calling in toms, out of ground blind, and literally decapitating them. It was the craziest thing I have ever seen. They would show it in slow motion, and their head would literally come flying off. The problem, and they mentioned it, was getting them to fly. The head consisted of 4, probably 3 inches long. But they were only shooting 10 yards. It was very much impressive.

Any good broadhead will work fine. I have used thunderheads and Slick Tricks. Both work great, but like any head, you have to hit them where they live. Be prepared to jump up and chase after them the second you hit them. Even the best hit turkeys tend to run a ways before dying. They don't leave squat for blood trails, if any at all. If you lose visual sight of them, you probably won't recover them. They can take a pounding with archery tackle. I put 3 arrows in a hen last year and chased her 200 yards before killing her with a 4th arrow. I just got lucky finding her every 15 minutes or so and getting another shot at her. I don't know what kept her going. She was dead on her feet, but wouldn't stop running and hiding.
I saw the Gillatine heads that Toby was talking about. They work well for undisturbed (read that as turkeys that aren't spooky) birds. If they are wary, you will never get an arrow in them before they move out of the way, due to the "thummmmm" of the bow firing. The head is the hardest target to hit on a turkey, due to it bobbing around so much. It is a nice sales gimmick, but I know the heads fly like crap. They will work great for CLOSE corn chummed birds on private ranches, but not in the real world Flinch

I've seen those and they look like killers for d@*m sure. I am looking for something to body shoot em with. I shoot NAP Nitrons now and they throw a heck of a blood trail on deer for a small broadhead. I am leaning toward something with a larger cutting diameter for turkeys. Sounds kinda silly wanting a bigger head for turkeys than deer, but I'd feel a little more comfortable.....I guess.

I think I would try one, just say I decapitad a turkey, it looked pretty cool, head going one way, and the body falling in its tracks. You could also see the corn slinging out of their now sliced throat. But you know, if they didnt fly good, and I missed, I could just run them up in the corner of the high fence, and whack him again

I like how all the other turkeys stand around watching the beheaded tom flop around. Yup, definitely wild turkeys Toby, take a club along in case they attack you in the corner of the fence. Flinch

Thats the good thing about Tx. You can kill 4 a year So I do hope 3 others stand around and watch. Cuz they will get it too.

Turkey have a smaller kill zone personally I would go with a expander head that lets me group more accurately..
I use spitfires.

Take a look at the Rocket Sledgehammer. It is a mechanical that opens to a huge cutting width. I used it on turkeys and they dropped like literally hit with a sledgehammer!
