Before I tear into my Savages with my Craftsman screw drivers, can anybody recommend a good set of tools?

B-Square offers a good set for around $20. I have bought several over the years. I've had a Brownell's master gunsmith set for many years but would recommend the B-Square over the Brownell's.

perchbellie, I have a peck basketfull of screwdrivers, but what I use most are the replaceable bits. The problem with anything you buy is that they don't fit the slot you are working on. That is the surest way to bugger a screw. The replaceable bits can be easily ground to fit so you do the job right. If you screw one up it costs little to replace it. The brand of handle doesn't matter very much as long as it is comfortable to use. To grind a bit to fit I use a small grinding wheel in my drill press. The small diameter wheels with a 1/4" shaft work just fine, and give a nice hollow ground shape.

I've had that B-Square set for about 10 years, and it's never let me down. Some bits have been replaced over the years, and the handle in the box says Crafstman now, but it's served me well.

How about the new Wheeler set as sold by MidWay USA? If the quality is decent it looks mighty handy.

Most any replacable bit set will work it you're willing to grind to fit...it's the best way to go. But be forewarned...You'll soon have a billion little bits, all looking almost the same rolling around your tool kit.

How about the new Wheeler set as sold by MidWay USA? If the quality is decent it looks mighty handy. Midway had there Wheeler Space Saver set on sale this month for $4.99 so I bought one to throw in the range box. I'm glad I only paid 5 bucks for it - appears to be cheap chinese crap, especially the torx bits, they are so crude I really had to study the smaller ones to determine if they were torx or hex. I also have a B-Square set. Buy the B-Square!

+1 on the B-Square, you might also investigate Chapman screw driver sets. I've had several and they pretty good.
BTW, if you have an Academy store in your area, I think they sell the B-Square screwdrivers.

My Chapman set is many years old. They are very good. Problem getting replacement bits. Chapman wont sell them, Browness are a loose fit. Good Luck!

Chapman wont sell them, Browness are a loose fit. Not so. Not only have they replaced broken ones free but I've gotten a couple of others for spares at a reasonable price.

I own both the Brownells and the B-Squares sets. I gotta go with M. Coleman--go with B-Sqaure. The Brownells are awful pricey. Although the extra Brownell "stubby" handle is often useful.
