Got held up over last weekend and spent last Sunday in a hotel room in San Angelo, TX. One of the movie channels ran Lee Marvin films, and before you know it, I was glued to a TV.
Of particular interest was Monte Walsh, a western, that I'd never seen before. Laughed so hard during a couple of scenes my sides hurt.
Seems to me, modern movies excell in special effects, but pale in comaprison - when acting is the criteria.
I agree entirely about the special effects. It seems that movies nowadays are more about car crashes, gunfights, and explosions, than they are about acting.
Lee Marvin is a favorite of mine. Always got a kick out of the interview he gave where he named Captain Kangaroo the best or toughest Marine he knew.
"The number one problem with America is, a whole lot of people need shot, and nobody is shooting them." -Master Chief Hershel Davis
Many of Marvin's roles left a lasting impression. I'll watch The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, at every opportunity. Wish I'd get the chance to see it in color though.

He was also very good in Donovan's Reef with John Wayne.
Digging through a Lee Marvin website at the moment, had no idea he'd made that many films (gotta be fifty of 'em). There's a number of 'em I've never seen.
Yeah, that ol' Bob Keeshan rumor still has legs.
Iron legs with me because I heard him say it.
And yeah, I've read all the nay-saying Monday-morning quarterbacking that denies it, too. All that crap came long after he said it.
"I'm gonna prove to ya that y'ain't here." "Oh, yeah? have at it!" "Y'ain't in China, are ya?" "No." "Y'ain't in Russia, are ya?" "No." "Well, if y'ain't in China or Russia, ya must be some'eres else. An' ya can't be here 'n' some'eres else at the same time."
So much for the denunciatory powers of Monday-morning bar-stool "logic."
"Good enough" isn't.
