Hi guys. Any suggestions on the best way to tighten the action screws on a pre 64 model 70? What order, how tight? Thanks! I just picked up a new to me 1959 era 30-06. Can't wait to try it out.

As to how, I would use a screwdriver. Front and rear tight. Middle tight and then back off half to three quarters of a turn. I tighten front first.

Is it a fwt or std with screw into barrel?

This may seem trivial and some may laugh, but make sure you have a screwdriver that fits to minimize the chance of buggering up the heads.
In terms of torque, I go with 35 in-lbs on the front/back guard screws with the middle one snugged up and then backed off a little. I don't think there is a definite call on the barrel screw. Mine is torqued down enough so I don't worry about it backing out. As long as I'm consistent with torque, I've had no issues with taking the action out and replacing it while maintaining a consistent POI/POA.
Best of luck with you pre64.

I do not have a torque wrench. Front guard screw TIGHT, back guard screw snug, middle just touching, and barrel screw just touching. In that order, according to an old Winchester hand I once knew. Worked pretty good for me. Jack

Front tight, back tight, middle not tight. AS to the bedding screw, you should play with it some. Most of my pre-64's liked it backed off, but some wanted it almost farmer tight. Good luck.
