Nan and I headed out to NY state this past Thursday to pick up my 1895. We were trying to dodge the blizzard that hit the northeast and I must say we did very well doing so. We were in Oswego, NY Thursday evening. Friday we spent the day just relaxing and enjoying Lake Ontario in the winter. The snow started early afternoon and we had white out conditions into Friday evening. It looked like driving west on Saturday morning wasn't going to be a problem. It really wasn't even though it was snowing quite hard. The 125 mile trip took a tish over 3 hours. BUT the reward was FANTASTIC, thanks to DGF.

After having a wonderful lunch with Doug and his lovely wife Diane and his grandson Brady, we headed back to Oswego. Our plan was to head to Massachusetts to visit with JTC and get a full blown tour of the Savage plant. We were going to stay Sunday in Oswego and do the trip today, Monday, and head home from the plant. BUT because of bad weather we went to Mass yesterday and dodged yet another storm by doing that.

We visited with JTC and his wife Linda. Had a fantastic dinner with them and got a grand tour of their new home. I also got a look and what John goes through when one of us asks for a letter on one of our rifles.

These are the Savage ledger books

And THESE are the A.H. Fox records.

John and Linda took us to the plant this morning. I can't put into words what a privilege it was to see the operation, actually meet Ron Colburn, and have him show us around the museum.

EVERY gun in these two pictures will be GONE by the end of the week. It is unbelievable to actually see the operation and hear the numbers of guns produced and shipped every month.

John pointed out this picture that we ALL have seen at on time or another. This rifle in the poster was actually checkered by none other than JTC himself. I did ask Ron if he planned to keep his hands in the mix after he retires and the answer was a resounding YES. He also said that there would NEVER be another Savage 99 built by the company. It's just way too expensive to manufacture.

You ole bugger, you never told me you were getting a 95 SRC, I just thought it was an 1895! Did you get John to letter it for you while you were there? Funny I don't have Doug down in my papers on that one so if you don't mind p.m. me with the details.

What a trip, it would be my fantasy vacation and they'd have to physically remove me from JC's basement.

I really gotta go to that museum so I can say "need it, need it, got it, need it, got it , got it....."

Thanks for the pics Steve, best thread in a long time!

P.S., wow those ledgers look really delicate!

Sorry to hear no new 99's cry

Seems I viewed some pics on one of the forums were someone took a tour of the Savage plant and they had a section cordoned off for new 99 production.

Maybe a just a farce....

i know they let some people walk through and build their own rifle. would be my dream to get to do that. wonder if there's a way to arrange that or if it's just gun writers and celebrities?

It cracks me up that the "New 99" fantasy just won't die, even when the CEO of the company says it could NEVER happen.

I'm waiting for the conspiracy theory of why they won't remake the 99 shocked

I guess if they would have been making money on them, they would have never quit making them in the first place.
