I am ordering one in 6.5mm BRM, my question is - should I get a brake installed? Not so much for the recoil but to keep the muzzle down and maybe that isn't a big issue, just would be a good time to do it while it is being built. The fine people there tell me it is about a 50/50 split in sales with and without brakes.
Thanks,
Mark

18 years ago!!, I had a 6.5 BRM built as my new born son's first rifle. Excellent round that can be loded as a plinker up to big game. The rifle - though UGLY - has been an accurate fun tool. As a handgun hunter, I have went through several stages - from bolt action handcannons to my now favorite Bowen ruger single actions. Shoot a braked single shot to see if you care for the brake. On a single shot, muzzle rise a quick follow ups are not a hunting issue. The brake will be louder but you may not care. Happy to share reloading info if you get the gun.

Thanks for your advise I'm not have them put a brake on it. I am having swivel studs installed, otherwise it will be a stock standard BF pistol.

I dont intentionally hunt with a hand gun my self but I do carry a super blackhawk in my truck when I head to the lease to corn up my feeders. It has taken a hog or 10.

Please note these are "heavy" loads for my son's rifle - your pistol's chamber may differ. All loads are in formed - once fired - winchester 30-30 brass, CCI BR LR primers - COL varies but is between 2.80 and 2,835 depending on bullet and accuracy in my rifle. With a 100gr X or partition, begin with 31gr of 4320. At 34.4 gr my rifle is accurate and gives 2700fps. This was my Son's hunting load for years - the recoil is moderate accuracy ecellent. Begin at 30gr 4320 with 120gr bullets. 33.5 gives 2575 in my rifle. I used bulk 120 gr Rem bullets over 30gr to fire form - it was one of the most accurate loads used. We never tried heary 6.5's being this was a light childs rifle used on small whitetails. EAB will supply load date if asked. zac
