The catalog arrived a few days ago & I flipped through it cover to cover last night. Except for the Cabela's brand electronic noise suppresing ear muffs I have to say that I didn't locate anything else that wasn't in the good-medium value price range. Cabela's used to be the go to company when I was shopping for an item. Now days it's Lock, Stock & Barrel for reloading, Auction Arms for guns & leather, and Sierra Trading Post for clothes and other stuff. Cabela's is a great company, their customer service and variety of goods is exceptional but their prices have gotten out of hand.

I do a lot of business with them on the Internet. I wait for the sales then look through the big and tall section. Hard to find cloths that fit me
But I agree that I don't just pick up the catalog and order. lots of better prices out there.

Cabela's is cheap insurance,in these parts.
They won't jerk you around and I've zero qualm using them, even if their price is a touch more than some.
Brought several of their catalogs to Camp with me and got my Shooting catalog in today's Mail.
I figure I'm but a dump away,from ordering somethin'....................(grin)

Cabelas could cut their prices enough to be the best in the business if they'd cut out 2/3 of those full color catalogs. I probably get 2 doz a year. I used to work for a small catalog co. and I can tell you, those things are expensive to produce and mail.

Agreed. I get the hard cover one- sometimes two, then other catalogs every few weeks.
One Master and the occasional sales catalogs would do it. I can find Bargain Cave on my own.
If I order out of the Master, and it is on sale, well great - they should automatically give me the sale price. I rather doubt most of us sit around and wait for something to go on sale when we need it and/or have the scratch. I don't anyway. But I will research best price sometimes.
Hard to beat their service, tho.

Cabela's is now owned by a homosexual black woman who was born in Red China and raised by a pack of wolves in Yellowstone, but if my wife orders something and doesn't like it when it gets here they are good about trading it for something different or refund...

I agree they send a lot of catalogs, but it is cost effective. Every time they mail one out, orders go up by a substantial multiple, the exact amount of which I have forgotten. Best way to save money with them is their branded, made in China stuff, but only if it's really right. Of course everything is made in China now, anyway. I don't know what Chinese feet are like but they aren't like mine. In leather boots I have a tough time getting them to work.

All their catalogs look the same to me anymore. The one noticable change is that each new catalog looks more and more like a department store offering - clothes, shoes, linens, furniture, housewares.... This is to be expected, since there is no way they can keep building these huge stores by catering only hunters, fisherman, and shooters. Abercrombie & Fitch started out as a sportsmans store; kinda makes me wonder what Cabela's and Bass Pro will be like in 50 years.
I seem to buy a lot of stuff I really don't need at Cabela's - I've got a meat slicer, cast iron cookware, and portable camp shower I haven't used yet... hopefully some day.
I do like Cabela's for reloading supplies. Their prices are competetive (especially when using the coupons they send in the mail, which is how I end up buying crap I don't need), and since they are local I pick it up and save the shipping cost, which is a killer on brass and bullets!

BPS as well as Cabela`s send me catalogs and i find it helpful in comparing prices even if only on a limited basis. Plus they seem to have the latest stuff listed. Can`t say that i see any real difference in prices but i can say I`ve dealt with BPS (have a local store) and Cabela`s (mail order) and with out a doubt Cabela`s gives (me) the best service.... period. Also have a Wal-Mart close by for the little stuff. Works for me.

Of all the catalogs sitting by my chair in the living room, the Cabela's catalog gets the most use, and the most business from me. They have "tall" sizes for nearly all of their clothes, and that's the size I need. Plus, Cabela's has about anything and everything in a few of their catalogs that I can look at in the comfort of my chair. Their products are good, as I've never had to send anything back cause it wasn't up to par. I live in a small town of 2000 people and we don't have the things available here that Cabela's offers. So, I order from them and the stuff is sent to my door. Don

Speaking of the hard cover catalog, obviously one must do a fair amount of business with them in order to get it sent to them. What do you do with them? They are starting to fill up my bookshelf. Here is an example of their exceptional customer service. I bought a tent in 2000 via the mail and discovered a tear in a seam in 2004 after some use. I called them and they said to send it back for examination. I explained it would cost me alot to do this. They said I could take it to the Hamburg, PA store and gave me a reference number. When I went to the store they gave me the full refund for the tent in cash, no questions asked. This isn't the first time they have provided exceptional customer service. So I don't mind paying a little extra when I know they will back up their merchandise.
Just because I am wandering around doesn't mean I am lost.

I like getting the catalogue, and I buy something every so often. I find it's just camo, camo and more camo. I have uet to see an effective pattern for Alberta in November when we haven't had a leaf on a tree in 2 months.

What to do with all the catalogs? Well, in this town we have a recycling operation, and the old newspapers, magazines etc. end up as kitty litter. I'd rather buy from local people (with a couple of exceptions) but the catalogs have stuff I can't find locally. For example, I bought a combination gun in 7x57R and ammo was not to be found anywhere except Cabelas, on the web, and a box or two at gun shows.

martinbns - I wish that Cabela's would realize that not all of us can hunt in camo! The blaze stuff they offer is limited! Had to buy a hunting coat from LL Bean because they were the only ones to offer the features that I wanted. I agree with you about the catalogs - 8 a year + the hard bound book is too many! Good company to deal with but they need to remember it was sportsmen not yuppies who made them what they are today. CEJ...
