Help me find a 16 bore

I just cant seem to find one that is either the right weight, love a M-12 16 bore but I have had 4 and none of them will cycle reliably, most ammo is too long once spent. I love the 1100s but there too heavy, may as well shoot a 12. Would really like to find one built on a 16 gauge frame.

So do you guys have any ideas? Not an A5 fan, what about a Citori? Like to keep this in the 1000 to 1500 max range.

Thanks

Are you sure your m12's weren't 2 9/16 chambers? My first one was, and cycled exactly as described, really put a bad taste in my mouth, every one after that, was chambered for 2 3/4 has functioned flawlessly. I believe they went to 2 3/4 around 1930, but somebody with more expertise on model 12's would be able to give you an exact date. The new (and old) ithaca's are very sharp guns as well!

How do you feel about a SxS ?
CZ makes the Bobwhite in 16, fixed IC and Mod chokes.

Other than that I'll second the Ithaca 37.

Take a look at the Browning BPS in 16 ga . Best 16 ga pump made

Passport, at one time my cousins all shot model 37 16 ga. shotguns..I never owned one in 16, have had 20's and now a 12, but if a guy wanted a slick 16, I would think a 37 would just be the ticket..Next mth. we will be taking a tour though some good shotgun country to visit friends and relatives..I usually stop in all gunshops I have a chance to visit..I seldom look at doubles..another model might be the 31 Rem. I saw one in Mich. sometime about, but passed on it due to being a 16 ga. It had a nice solid rib..Those 31's are a slick action also..

Hard to beat a Marlin model 90 if you don't mind double triggers and extractors. For pump I much prefer the Ithaca 37 to the Winchesters and Remington 31 I had.

All my 16's were older ones and all were 2 3/4 inch chambers. I think the old ones had the correct chamber but a 2 9/16 ejecton port. That and I also think the new 16 ga ammo is too dam long. Either way Im done messing with the 16 bore m-12's, have a 20 and love it but time to try something new ni a 16.

bea, I'm curious as to why you prefer the BPS to the Ithaca? I have both and my 20 gauge BPS weighs as much as my 12 gauge Ithaca. The 37 also has a slicker action. Of the two I would prefer the Ithaca.

What approximate year of manufacture were the 16 gauge model 12 you owned that gave you issues?

I just bought a Model 12 16 gauge chambered for 2 3/4" YOM 1952 mainly because of its light weight and being friendly to a leftie.
I have not had chance to shoot it and will watch for issues.

I took a BPS pheasant hunting and it was to heavy but love the tang safety and bottom eject. The Ithaca seems hard for a left handed person to work the slide release.

I have owned more than a dozen Model 37 and i liked them, but the Browning just feels better and i never could get used to the rattly forearm on the Ithaca. I have also owned a couple of 37's that after being shot a lot would when pumped put one in the chamber the one behind it on the ground. I could fix that problem now, but when younger i just had no idea what caused it and it kind of soured me on the Model 37 at a young age. I now have a Browning 16 ga BPS and no Ithaca . One other plus about the Browning is the TOP Tang Safety , since I'm a Southpaw.

I wonder if those old M 12s would work just fine with the top wad, roll crimp ammo of the time?

Chuckle...I should have used "have worked," not "work." I'd never thought of it before, but I'll bet the star crimp put a crimp in ejection of more than one repeater that had an ejection port just big enough for the older ammo.

Not at all. The hull length after firing is the same regardless of fold crimp or roll.

Thanks for the info. I've never fired roll crimp ammo. I've a few rounds around, but hate to fire them as looking at that old box of paper hulled ammo gives me more satisfaction than shooting it. Gives me a window to a time I never experienced.

Have a good smith open up the ejection port about 1/4 inch on a user Model 12
16 gauge and go shoot it with any ammo. Or just use Remington/Winchester ammo and your problems are over.
