Is there a formula to determine how much a front sight subtends (covers) at different ranges? I know I could put up different size targets and compare the sight picture, but the nerd in me figures there must be a way to calculate it. My front sight is .070" wide and the sight radius is 26 inches. Thanks.

Your front sight covers 9.7 in at 100 yds.

Just use the sight height corection formula that states the correction needed at 100 yds is multiplied by the sight radius and divided by the distance to target in inches.

9.7 inches at 100 yds multiplied by 26 inches = 252.2 and this is divided by (100 yds x 36 = 3600 inches) so 252.2 divided by 3600 = 0.0700

I just tried various subtensions at 100 yds and worked through a couple of calculations untill the answer was your .070 front sight width.

Thanks. I've only worked with a 5" target at 50 yards and was guessing "a bit" less.
