Decided to put together a mid weight deer thumper:

[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

Specs:
SS 700 ADL 308Win with 24" pipe
Callahan SL assembly with polished shroud
AG bedded in a LVSF takeoff
Trigger set at 39oz
TLW lows
VX2 3-9x40
Total weight 7lb 4oz

I love the feel of it and believe it should come in handy next fall. Thought about chopping the bbl a few inches, but its already as light as I was shooting for and balances quite well. I'm about 100 rounds in on load development and its doing ok, several 4 shot groups from .8-1" and a pile of 3 shot groups in the 3/4" range. For right now my deer load will be 165 GK HPBTs over 43.5g H4895 in WW NP brass lit by WLRs for 2630fps avg. That oughta splatter the little deer around here.

Have a good one,

Loder

I'm guessing it's a 308. If I'm correct, try some TAC.

Yeah, 308. I went back and added that in.

I've tried TAC, R15, R17, IMR4007SC, and H4895 so far and it's liking 46.5g R15 under 168NBTs and 43.5g H4895 under the 165 GKs thus far. Wanted to run Varget, but I'm out and no one has any right now around here. R17 was the most speedy of the bunch, just not giving the consistency of those two.

I've got an extra one sitn in the closet Ingwe, figure its a good excuse for another SA when I come across another good deal. Rem replaced the pad on it with a new SC pad, only weighs 25oz with the lighter pad.

The one I put on the pictured rifle was grey with black web, but I didn't even know they came in anything other than black. Had to have the grey one when I saw it.

That is a good looking rig for sure and the groups are nice as well.

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....
