I have 2 Ruger Mk. 3 pistols, a 22/45 and the regular steel model. I have field stripped them at least once for cleaning but have not removed the barrel from the frame, just the bolt to get at the receiver area for oiling, etc.
I read once that if you remove the barrel from the frame which is held in place by a wedge, it will shake loose over time. I know of some people who like to field strip their .22's every trip to the range. I only clean the bolt face and chamber area with a q-tip, and the rear of the bolt area with the action locked open. The barrel gets cleaned only once every 4-5 trips to the range. Anyone know of one of these getting loose from too many full tear downs?

In my experience the lock pin that goes up through the rear of the receiver gets a little easier to remove and replace after a while. On brand new pistols I've had to judiciously tap that pin with a mallet to get it loose.
I've removed the receiver from the grip frame on some of them but probably not more than once or twice on any one pistol so couldn't say if that gets looser.

Shoot it until the bolt stops moving.

If it is anything like the MKII, they can easily be peened tight if you want, but the slight looseness in no way affects accuracy. You want to take it apart to clean it, they can get grungy.

How often are you guys cleaning the barrel? Does it shoot more accurately after cleaning the barrel?

I hardly ever clean the barrel, other than to push an oiled patch through it once or twice.

Here is how I clean my blued finish guns. Take the grips/stocks off. Remove magazine. Lock the bolt back. Use gunscrubber or even carb cleaner and hose that bad boy out good. Caution eye protection good idea here. Let it dry out or I use air compressor and blow it out. Then I spray it down inside good with CLP and distribute and blow the excess out with the air compressor. Wipe it down good externally. Put back together and you are good to go. NEVER had any problems doing this way.

Yes you can loosen the upper to lower fit, but it takes a LOT of stripping the gun to do it, and its very easily fixed when it does happen. Clean it like you want to and dont sweat it. The good news is, the upper receiver is a single unit, receiver, barrel, & sights. So no matter what happens to the lower, or the fit to the lower, the accuracy is never effected.

Each time you remove the barrel, put STP on the mating surfaces. Never put the the gun together dry. Dry has ruined more guns then anything.

Not if you don't bugger up the job. Mine's been apart after every range session for years.

as hard as they are to take apart, I don't expect to live long enough to wear one out that way...
