Looks like even Universal Background Checks is in trouble in the Senate.

Good news. If there is this much trouble in committee in the Democrat controlled Senate it bodes well that nothing is going to get done at the National level.

The Senate Judiciary Committee was expected to take up several gun control measures today and mark up final legislation. The Committee, however, has put off action for at least week. "more talks on a possible compromise" means they know they don't have the votes to get it done....at least not yet.

Or the Dem senators don't want to be put on record regarding the issue. Gun control is a loser issue all the way around. Dem senators who vote yes to it get hammered by the NRA. Those who vote no get hammered by Moveon.org and OFA.

Hopefully it will be put off forever. It is crucial however, that those who are arguing "for us" understand that the issue is any record linking a given gun to a given legal owner and not just what some are terming "universal background checks". Universal background checks are always going to be linked to records and records are what we cannot have lest the government know right where to come to pick up the guns, legally or illegally. Some don't want to call any record keeping, "registration". It is, but I submit that the semantics are beside the point. The point is that the government cannot have records of our guns either nationally, state-wise or locally. No compromise.

The other thing we must educate people on is the mental health aspect. Once the government gets expanded mental health scrutiny, which sounds good, it gets to define the terms. The field of Psychology/Mental Health makes the field of Education look downright conservative. You want either the Psychologists or the government defining the terms of who is and who is not crazy? No compromise.

Those that say we have to compromise are flat-out wrong. It's a defeatist attitude and it's also a complete lack-of-understanding of a "right".

Probably some key votes are holding out for more money from Soros before pledging their support.

In battle delay is a tactic - during an opponents delay, you need to attack. So keep burning up the phone lines and donating to the NRA - they respect the power of the NRA.
