A a #3 Brux or Bartlien bedded in a Mcm classic should make a very accurate rifle, nothing wrong with a 8-8.5# 7mm08 it will serve you well!

I think you guys and I are thinking the same thing. I'll probably leave it in the LVSF stock for now, then when the McMillan finally comes in I can swap it. I can get a #4 Benchmark tomorrow, but it's not fluted. Anybody know where I can get a barrel a little faster? Bugholes?

I'll have to call Grizzly tomorrow to see what they actually have. I just checked Bugholes and the closest they have is a fluted #5, but I think that's going to be too heavy. I'll find one somewhere.

T10564 a #3 9" twist 7mm This is what I would do. I purchased mine from Grizzly, think it took just under a week to get to my door.

From the sound of it that's probably the direction I'm going.

Your build sounds good to me for your purpose. Keep the shank short to save some unecessary weight. I'm doing a lightweight 7-08, and just waiting for my McMillan stock to show up so I can send everything out to get built. I'm hoping to be under 7lbs scoped.
McMillan MR in Edge Stiller Predator SA Rock #2 to finish at 20" Jewell PT&G BDL alum. bottom metal Trijicon 3-9x40 Accupoint (green triangle) Rings - undecided, but probably Burris Signature

And lastly pick a different mag range for the scope. 10x on high end is ample glass for a 7-08. There is a 3-9x42 im quite fond of for that particular application. But to each his own. I guess your 7-08 doesn't shoot well enough for any more glass than 10x. Try banging moa steel at 1300+ yards with your 3-9 and let me know how it works... Oh and to the OP- the Conquest 4.5-14 with target turrets is 50mm objective, not the 44. If you are building a do everything rifle, the Zeiss you have in mind will do nicely for hunting and bench work.

Blacktails, sounds like an awesome rig. I had a custom built by Hart that was about the same barreled action, but had a different handle. I liked it much but a buddy just had to have it so I passed it down. He still loves it and I've seen him make some nice kills with it. I'm sure you'll like it.

So who will be the smith?? You have one of the best in your state you know. He has built me two awesome 7mm-08's. Anyway, if you do have a smith in mind maybe check with him to see what works, at least find out some options.

I would be guessing that your talking about Jon Beanland? There are several I'm looking at, but Jon is one of them. He's really good and who several of my friends use.

Yeah, I actually talked to Stoney the other day on the phone about some of his rigs. He and I have a lot alike when it comes to what we want in a rifle. I didn't know he was selling this one, but it's damn nice.

This 7-08 came out perfect for me and was built by Beanland. - Trued Rem 700 short action - Kampfeld Customs - Remington McMillan Hunter (aka Sako Hunter) ADL stock in 40% black, 30% Olive, 30% Tan, 13.75" LOP, stainless sling studs, Pillar bedded with 9/16" pillars by Jon Beanland - Fluted bolt and skeletonized bolt handle - Kampfeld Customs - Rock, 1:9 twist 5r barrel in a #2 contour finished at 22" with standard hunting crown - Chambering/Barrel work by Jon Beanland - PTG trigger gaurd - All metal (trigger gaurd, action, bolt, handle and barrel) Cerakoted in graphite black - Jon Beanland - Old school rem 700 trigger worked to 2lbs - 5oz (single stage) - Jon Beanland - Talley lightweight rings (lows) - Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40 with alumina flip covers - Weighs in as pictured at 7lbs - 12 or 13oz Stick a #3 in it and you'll have your heavier pointing gun. I personally love the balance of this #2 and wouldn't change a thing.

I think that with a #3 or #4 that's been fluted would be just about right. That's the same stock I may end up with also. I think something like that would go a long way to doing anything you ever wanted to do.

You asked for thoughts so here are mine with regard to your original post. Way too heavy up front and way too light in the back if you plan to use that heavy a tube. Also, too heavy overall IMO.
#2 tube, no DBM, EDGE stock would be my plan.
