looks like a need to buy a tool in order to reload some brass, any suggestions would be appreciated! Can you believe that the Federal Fusion 223 loads use a crimped primer pocket!

That is what I use.

Found a used one several years ago for $5.

Works great.

That RCBS tool will work but it is as slow as Christmas. This one works better:

Chuck up a VLD in a drill and I can go through a bucket of brass in no time. Usually fill one fist with as many as I can hold and zap each one with the VLD/Drill

[bleep] the RCBS swager kit, I'd eat a bullet before spending the time doing it that way.

Buy a counter sink bit from the hardware store. Chuck it in the drill and go to town.

That might remove TOO much brass, and you'll have primers popping out when you fire. There are propper tools.

Common sense ain't gotta damn thing to do with a countersink having a 45 degree angle. Get a VLD like Steelhead advised if this is your plan of attack. That would constitute "common sense".

I prefer the swaging method. I think it makes for a stronger primer pocket. I don't think I've ever had a primer fall out of a swedged pocket. Can't say that for those that have been reamed.

Steelhead ain't the only that has ever reamed a primer pocket. The VLD which I have will taper the inside walls of the pocket and can cause loose pockets. A swager if set up improperly will cause loose pockets. A hot load will cause loose primer pockets. I have been reaming pockets since the 70's and never had a primer fall out because it was reamed by a 45 degree reamer. Just need to know how to ream and use some common sense. This is true with a VLD or swager.

I want to point to the statement where you stated MIGHT. Yep and it might work great if used properly.

Actually Lyman makes a cutter for that handle expressly for removing the crimp wink

Swaged by far, from years of experience because we ran hot loads in the AR....

Cutting it out sucks in the end generally.

And I"m all about lazier methods. Just doesn't work for some issues. 20K plus rounds a year and you learn a bit here and there.

Agree Swage is the best ...but there are other ways that will get you by.

The ULTIMATE setup is a Dillon 1050 with a carbide sizer in station one, a Dillon electric trimmer in station five and a Lyman 22cal M-die after that.

This resizes, removes the crimp, trims, expands the case mouth and dumps it into a bin, at about a thousand pieces of brass/hr. Tumble the lube off and store in ammo cans, ready to load.
