It's not a popular choice of coyote cartridge but I am looking for some favorite loads for the .250 Savage as I just installed my new Match Grade Machine Barrel on my T/C Encore along with a Bushnell Elite 2x7 that wasn't busy doing anything else... Barrel is 1-10 twist at 26 inches.

I have Reloader 15, Varget, and some Ramshot TAC.

I ordered some 87 grain Speer TNT's and 70 grain Sierra Blitzkings to start with and plan on trying some 75gr V-Max, 85gr Ballistic Tips and the 90gr Sierra Blitzkings as well to see what it likes!

Anyone shoot any of these or any others and have some good loads for a .250 Savage? Thanks...

Within your list of components that you have on hand.
75gr V-Max RL15 38.0 CCI200 vel 3382. H414 also worked well with this bullet.
85 Bal Tip H414 41.5 CCI200 vel 3218
85 Bal tip RL15 36.0 CCI 200 vel 3111 (22 inch Mod. 99)
87 Speer RL15 36.0 CCI 200 vel 3077
All loads were worked up in Bolt action rifle with 24 inch barrel except as noted and were safe in that rifle. Suggest start a couple grains lower and work up. Also had good luck with H4350, H414,H380, IMR 4064 and the various 85 to 90 gr bullets. The 250 is not difficult to work with. None of these loads were very fur frendly especially at shorter ranges or if bone was hit.

RL-15 and Varget should work well with that weight range, I'd add Ramshot Big Game as well.
I've run the 75 gr Sierra hp with Varget for years in both a Ruger M77 and a Savage M99 with good accuracy. Haven't had but one coyote pop up when carrying them and it did a good job on that one.
Recently picked up a bunch of 87TNTs at a great price and worked up a load with them. Both rifles shot the same load with Big Game very well, and in the Ruger at least, to the same POI as the Sierra hp. I wouldn't expect that one to be fur friendly, especially if you catch bone.

quarter bore found the same load except I use Fed 210 primers.
75gr V-Max and 38 grains of Rx-15 gives me one hole groups out of my 700 classic.

Don't have the recipe handy but used to load the 100 grain Nosler solid base at a moderate speed for wolves and it would put them right down leaving a small exit wound.

It's not the destination...

Are you looking to keep the fur? My hunting partner shoots a 250 w/ 75gr. V-Max's and they have a tendency to make a mess. Fur friendly load might be the 70 gr. HP's and a medium load of whatever the gun likes. Just a thought...

Thanks for the info gents!

Got the dies and bullets I ordered today!

I'll try the RL-15 loads asap and I picked up a couple pounds of Ramshot Big Game and a box of 75gr V-Max's at the local shop this weekend, e-mailed Ramshot and got some load data today. Gonna try that too.

Not interested in fur yet so not worried about damage. I've been seeing lots of tracks and scat and running into some coyotes while walking in the woods lately. Thought I'd shoot at some!

Kinda new at this predator/varmint thing but can't wait to see what this little cartridge and these bullets can do!

I have a FoxPro Spitfire I've never used and a couple mouth calls. With a little luck maybe I can connect with a few this spring!

I have CCi 200's and 250's. Any ideas on which would be best with the Ramshot powder? I've heard magnum primers are best as Big Game is a ball powder but have no experience with that.

Thanks again Folks!

I'm using standard Winchesters with Big Game in the .250. Try both, see which your rig likes.

I load a couple of Savage 99s with the Sierra 90 grain HPBT and 35 - 36 grains H4895. Velocity ranges between 2950 and 3000 fps.
This bullet is very accurate in almost every .25 caliber cartridge it is loaded in. I would not call it fur friendly, but better than some of the lighter weight bullets loaded.
