While I am a dedicated semi auto CCW guy, my heart is always going to belong to a good revolver.

That's fine,.. A couple of years ago I was out kicking around the gun shops and stumbled upon this 151 series Police Service Six .357 from 1975 in 95% condition for $280. Just about anytime I find a nice American made revolver for under $300, my wallet is going to take a hit. This one is a keeper. It shoots dead on point of aim at 15 yards with my "go to" load of a 160 grain LTB WFN over 6 grains of Unique in .38 Spl. cases and does it as accurately as I can hold. Ruger should have never stopped making the Security/Service/Speed Six series. They're as fine a revolver as they ever produced. I like this one as well as any handgun I own. I regularly look for a nice 6" Security Six when I'm out and about. I'll buy the next one I find in the right condition at the right price.

The best shooting handguns I'v ever owned were revolvers. I sorely regret selling my old, 1960's made K-22 and especially my K-38. That .38 would put all six into 3/4's of an inch at 25 yds., outside spread ! My current 4 inch, Smith 29 put all six at 25-35 yds into 1.5 inches several times with factory Remington soft point ammo. That, too was outside spread, all holes touching. Bought that one in 1967, and it has never been for sale. They are THE choice for accurate shooting and hunting. E

My Speed Six is a 38 special, doubt I could blow it up! Bought it for $200. I also have a 6" Security in 357. They pretty much take care of most that I need done. The pair set me back $450.

I think those security six's in the late 70's new were about 140bucks, i remember that as the smith 19 was around 175bucks, and the colt a little more.

Those are great revolvers. They were a smoking deal then, and probably even a better deal these days when you find them. Ruger was smart enough to design the grip frame where you dont really need anything filling in the space behind the trigger like a S&W, Colts, or Taurus revolver grip. The speed six is small and built like a tank, and theyve always been cheap comparatively speaking.

When I was in the DPD Academy in 1977 we were issued Model 64s... A few years later I found out that the armory had a bunch of Model 15 turn-ins...so I went and traded. I had 11 years on when I left and only later found out that because I had more than 10 years I could have BOUGHT the 15 when I left....
The 15 was never carried on duty as I always carried my own N-frame or 1911... Shot once to sight in and qualify and never shot again...

I've got a stainless Speed Six that I bought in 1980. It was, in fact, my first handgun. My mom is currently keeping it at her and my dad's house. I believe that one in the picture is a Speed Six, isn't it?

I've owned two different 2" Model 15's. Both of them shot like rifles. One was nickel and the other blue. Somehow I let myself get talked out of both of them.
I try to drink less these days. You need to go check out that 4" Model 15 at Evan's Archery in Lexington. It's a pin barrel model,...got that old timey blue on it that's as shiny as a new dime. $400 is what they askin',....but I bet if you played that State Cop angle, you could get 'em to knock 50 bucks off the price. It's got Pachmahrs on it now,...but K-frame grips are easy enough to come by. In fact, I'd stick some Ahrends on it, anyway. If you don't go get it,..I probably will,...and if I dump $400 on another S&W,...I'm liable not to get any more nookie until I don't even care.

You know, I just did a search for Ruger Speed Sixes to see what they're going for, and you can hardly find one for sale. The one I did find wasn't even a desirable configuration, and it was going for over $600.00. Hard to believe.

Here are a couple of my old Colts. The top one's an Army Special (in .38 Special), later to have a name change to Official Police, and the bottom one's a Police Positive Special (also in .38 Special).
