I have a 243 catbird. It is a 270 AI necked down to a 243. 85 TSX 3850 fps and 70 NBT 4000. My start loads were max of the 240wby. It has a 26 in. Krieger.

I have a 12ga. I don't need a 30-30.

Same tube still Paul? That [bleep] has to have some rounds down it now. Hell, I was afraid to let ya have it. How many you put through it now?

I would worry about the VLD bullets that everyone likes to shoot holding up and shooting well with that much speed. I don't think 105's were really built with 3300 fps and faster in mind.

I would imagine the 3100 ballpark or a pinch more without going nuts. If you need more speed you could always add a dab of bulleseye wink

a 6/06 in a 24" tube? My 243 AI runs 105s at 3170 from 24"...

I'd bet 3250-3300 would be more like it.

I ran my drop chart for the A-max at 3250... It Drops slightly less. I can't tell you how much faster it is than 3250, but I'ld say 3300 would be close... I really need to buy a chrony

P.S. I ran it up a little faster, but it shoots better here. I run RL-22

I agree with this, in my 6mmAI and 6x284 the 105 AMax will blow-up before they hit 3300fps. The only consistent performer I have found around this velocity is the 107gr SMK.

yeah, my 6mm Rem on a long action Model 700 runs 115 grain Bergers at 3250 fps out of a 24 inch Pac Nor barrel with a one in 7 twist... using RL 19 and H 1000 to accomplish that...

Eremicus-I have 25-06,damm good cartridge, just like 6mm's better and look at the bullet selection we have to choose from.

I'd stay away from the 90NAB for deer sized game at 6-06 speeds. I fired 4 into deer last season out of my 6-06 at 3500, varmint bullet results. I couldn't get one to go through and despite being bonded, it'd peel the lead from the jacket and leave a frag trail. I'll be using the 80TTSX or 90NET next year. Wanted the 85TSX to work, but this rig isn't consistent with them. Also have some 90 SS2s that shoot quite well, but I'm a bit hesitant to run them on game after the 90NAB results.

As far as powder, I've been having good luck with a broad range. R25, R22, H4831, 7828, and R17 have all worked really well. R17 is my pick for 90 or less and both R25 and H4831 work well with 90 & 95s. YMMV

Thanks for your thoughts on a 6mm-06. Did you ever try a
Nosler 100gr partion? I am going to start with 80gr barnes &
H-4350 and Re 17 for the powder, will also try 90gr E-tip with
H-4831.

Sure didn't, but it loves the 85NPTs. I should probably poke some holes in a few critters with them, I just shot a couple boxes up on paper and was very impressed. One day at the range a guy commented how NPTs don't shoot that great. When we were down at the 100yd line I asked him to look at one of the targets(.3 for 4 shots with NPTs). He had to take a cell pic LOL.
