I'm sure the regulars on here are tired of these kinds of questions, but this is the best place to ask!

I picked up a stainless Ruger Security Six 6" .357 six months ago. I paid $350 for it, plus a leather holster, belt and box of ammunition. A great deal I thought even though I knew nothing about Ruger Sixes at the time.

I've liked it so well I've been looking for another one here in Montana. I'm seeing $650 to $700 as the average price.

I thought well, how about used GP100's? Price are $700 to $800 for them which seems to be the cost of new.

Is it just Montana? Or has the gun control mess just jacked up the prices for all guns?

The reason I wanted to buy here in Montana was to do a face to face and look the revolver over before I bought.

Thanks ahead of time, and I'm sure you're tired of these price check questions from noobies.

I gotta belive it is the political climate. Sellers are hoping people will jump at the chance to buy anything before bad legislation is passed.

Also, if you don't want bad legislation to pass contact Baucus and Tester and give them an earful. They usually don't listen, but it worth a shot.

It's nation wide, might as well just buy new with the used prices being essentially the same.

The other two got it right: nation-wide. Watched a std. GP100 with 4" barrel go on GunBroker for over $1,400 a couple of days ago. Dayum.

Prices do seem to be jacked up in a lot of places - but it does depend a little on what and where. The Boise gun show last month had a lot of decent deals on some of the less popular guns. Unfortunately for the buyer - it seems that the Ruger revolver line has been getting a bit more favorable attention lately. Hard to square that with tradition. wink But they have always been under-rated, IMO.

Thanks to all...I see on Armslist in other states that Sixes are going for $200 to $300 less than here in Montana.

I'll keep looking!

I think it's just simply high demand with scarce supplies. I logged on to my two distributors yesterday and there was not a single Ruger handgun to be found. They were GONE!!

I'm glad I obtained that Ruger Single Nine a month ago when I had the chance.. Geez...

I picked up a stainless 45 Bisley convertible a few weeks ago new on GB for 535.00 BIN with 20 shipping. I should have bought one back when they were closer to 475, but even at 580 out the door, I didn't think I got a bad deal.

I don't think there will be a problem with single action revolvers regarding the feds, but you never know. These people are crazy!!

The stores i frequent are WAY down on everything, the shelves of handguns are way off too. People are buying what they can in fear of legislative and availability changes. Same for reloading componets, tools etc.
Try punching in a ruger redhawk in .41magnum and see how many hits you get.

People in this country are dumber than a 100 sheep when it comes to gun laws. There is a buying panic and gun and ammo sellers are taking advantage of it.

Henry I just went to the gun show in Bozeman. I was SHOCKED at the prices. I know they are out of whack in a lot of places but what I saw just blew me away. There are deals out there. I picked up a nice SS security six with 2 3/4" barrel recently for $450. Seemed reasonable as these didn't go cheap before all this started.
