Easiest pack-out ever, thanks to a good buddy and his horses! More typically a frame pack does the job: Did you know a tightly rolled 6' black bear hide fits in a pack? I didn't! Guy

A ten foot brown bear hide will too, if you stuff it right. It's amazing what one can manage to fit inside a pack. I think it all boils down to weight, actually. Bulk isn't that big a deal - unless you're trying to carry an un-split set of 65 inch moose antlers through dense alder - but weight seems to be the critical factor.

This guy was flabbergasted I had carried an elk out of that hole by myself. That was the rankest smelling mule Ive ever whiffed. People who ride mules are a little touched in the head

I have a external frame pack as well. Doesn't fit as well as the MR but sometimes gets the OK. I was actually letting my helper use the MR on this pack. I'm a nice fella!

I can only imagine what it had to be like, getting those antlers through the alders! Wow... Amazing how the bull moose don't seem to have a lot of problem going where they want, when they want. Eberlestock X1 on the first load then an ArcTeryx Bora 95 after that. I have carried big, mountaineering loads for years, and I have never seen anything carry better than the Bora95.

Unit 2 and Unit 3, my two sons. In a pinch, other folk's sons will do. The trick to the easy way is realizing there aint one.

x3 on the MR crew cab, love it! Another option if you are in an area that is not too steep is to use a sled. The cheap plastic ones. They work pretty well but are usually trashed by the time you finish with a few elk.

My preference is horses. When I don't have one of those, just an old cabelas Alaska. Guide frame pack Same here except I use llamas. I've hauled out a ton of meat with my old Cabelas Alaskan pack, though.

Here's what I use to pack out elk. Comfortable and lots of capacity! My elk last fall on top of this thing would give you a real 'hold my beer and watch this' ride down.

Sometimes it's nice that there is a terrible shortage of mountains in these parts... Years go,I hunted Alberta for elk. I live at 7600 ft and the tallest hill there was about 5000, ft.The guide kept complaining that I overworked him.
