The snout on that brute looks like a water buffalo. It is hard to realize everything your parents did for you growing up until you spent a few years out in the muck call life. That is why it is always fun to repay the favor and help the old man on his hunts. Trashed back, bad knees, wicked asthma, something always hurts but he NEVER complains, is never obsessed with killing something and always has fun, even if it is hard to get him to smile for the pictures. My Dad is the same way, fused back, just had hip replacement, arthritis in his feet and hands. My brother hunted for the first time last year and when the going was tough after Dad and I tagged out my brother said "I don't want to waste your time" My dad turned to him and said, "I'm loving this. Even if my tag was still in my pocket I'd love it just as much. All I have at home is a honey do list, a warm bed, and a TV. No way I'd take that over this right now."
Wanted: Vintage Remington or Winchester hats, patches, shirts. PM me if you have something.

I've killed more elk that I probably should for one lifetime. And I've guided lots of folks. BUT, the happiest I have EVER seen anyone about killing an elk was my wife of almost 49 years, Karen. She was maybe 25 years of age at the time and this was her very first elk. She killed the cow. It wasn't maybe the cleanest or fastest kill in the world, but it was HERS!!! To me, this photograph always illustrated the sheer joy of hunting. And it always will. Enjoy and God Bless, Steve

I was bowhunting deer when I ran into these two satellite bulls. This 6x6 should have had his own harem but they were shoulda-beens to a huge bull up the hill behind them. That one was the biggest bull I've ever seen and he had 20 cows that I could count. I wasn't able to get a pic of him.

My hunting buddy from our unsuccessful 2005 hunt. Early morning in White River NF: Another pic from the same 2005 hunt: 2010, my son-in-law just dropped his first elk, half-way between the tops of the aspens and the top of the far peak.

This one... a hunt not easily forgotten with a pretty special young lady.

I love a successful elk camp. This was the first hunt when we both got 6X6 bulls.

This one best represents my elk hunting career. Finally found a mature bull, a half day's hike away with about an hour of light left on the last day of the season.

This is my favorite... I knew the gentleman holding my elk since I was 9, he was my best friend's dad and like family, spent many a day hunting or fishing with him and he taught me alot about cooking and general conduct in the outdoors... I think he was more excited about this bull than me... He passed some years ago. I had two days to hunt with a buddy this year, that's all I could get away for. It was his first archery elk hunt and second year of archery overall. He just wanted any bull, I worked this bull from a drainage for a couple hours the first morning and he made a 20 yard shot pay off. His excitement of success made this hunt special, he even called me last week to reminisce about the hunt. He was one tired dog after the third trip out.
