I haven't bothered to bed any yet. I probably will this summer. You may find that you don't need to. I have adjusted the triggers.

Rancho-- I've handled the new MR's and I intended to buy one until I ran into the 700 SS Guide Gun 7-08 below. It's rapidly becoming a platform I'd like mimic in a 223..
I enjoy handguns and I really like shotguns,...but I love rifles!

Boredom...rutrow!
New mountain rifle? I will to check that out.
Hey, I just found some Marine-Tex in the garage. Think it's still good, freezing hurt that stuff? It looks okay to me.
Ted, if the trigger needs tweaked I'll PM you.
SAS, not bad for a Remington....grin

I'm thinking a sweet Red paint job is in order.
Geez, what are you trying to do, turn it into a pimp gun? Laughin'... Is it gonna get a Marks-a-lot brand and skateboard tape around the wrist? Now purple, that's the color to paint it...
This is a shooting forum, there is no place here for logic.

Sam,
You're going to LOVE that Montana 243.
Mine is the least finicky of all my Montanas. Bought it used off Dan, and it has shot everything.
I had a bunch of factory 243, and it is sub-moa with:
58g Hornady
80 TTSX (Blanked out on the load - have to look it up...Kinda embarrassing, really.)
100 Fed Blue Box (that I bought from $8-14 just about every time I saw a few of the same lot # at Wal-Mart - not regretting that now)
95 Fusion
100 Fed Prem. Partition
Just to name a few...It's a lazer with lots of stuff - especially those 58-80's.
I need to tote it more.
My Montana 7-08 does not work and play well with others, though...grin.

Not sure if I've ever read about someone having a bad 84M 243? Hope I didn't just jinx it! One other nice thing about the smaller caliber Kimbers is they have little more meat on the barrel sidewall. It should be a little over 6lbs scoped?

Sammo, I dig Kimber7Man's paint job on his Montana 243... it's fire engine red+black webbing, definitely sweet.
That's gonna' be a killer rig for sure! I'm jealous!

Nice.
I too have a Montana on the way. Mine is a 'campfire famous non-shooting 7-08. It should be here Monday.
I have a couple of Lilja's in the closet...a 6mm and a 6.5. Can't decide if I want to rebarrel it to 243 or 260. I vote 260! And would like first dibs! It'd compliment the beat up 300WSM I've got coming. Plus, I already have the Redding S dies for 260...

260 is probably the direction I'll go. I only have one other 260. I have 2, 243's -- with a third (Forbes) to show up later this year.
I a big 243 fan though. A 243 always seems to be in my hands during deer season. I need several because I have a few kids that are quickly becoming rifle grabbers!
I'm probably going to move my 9 year old daughter into one this year. She needs something a little lighter than a standard sporter (700). I'm thinking about chopping a Montana stock down and letting her fling some bullets.
I'm kinda itching for a 223 Montana again too. If I do, I'll probably trip my 700AI.
Sam is gonna like that 243 Montana coming his way...they're addicting!

It should be a little over 6lbs scoped? I won't get into the paint discussion, well not much... (OK - Red with black - lots of black ala 80/20 or 70/30 McSwirly, or, Tan or OD with black and gray if you're going to run black Talleys and a Matte scope - really like this combo with brown or black boots and a camo pack, but I'm not sure how this would look in snow...grin!!) As for beef in the barrel - you're on the mark - the 223 in a Montana is outstanding! It almost shoots itself and it's like the bullets are guided missiles. It's almost ridiculous what it will do at 600+ yards with common 55 grain pills with a mil dot reticle and target turrets. DJ

The factory paint jobs on the Montanas are quite hardy. I'd leave it as is.

Yep, the paint texture they use from the factory is pretty nice stuff. Nice and grippy, and it's super tough.

Sam is gonna like that 243 Montana coming his way...they're addicting! That's way too rational for gun talk. I'd like to rebarrel one like smokepole did is WSM. Factory contour through the forend, then slightly heavier to the muzzle. If I can't get my WSM project to shoot easily I may just try that. But then I'd have to decide between 7 and 6.5 on a short mag case of some sort. I better hope it shoots as I'm bad at making decisions...
