There are so many cartridges today,performance-wise seperated by tiny fractions of lines on charts, that you could pick three cartridges as an all purpose battery,(like you do lottery numbers),and be pretty close to right.

Which is why these threads go on for pages and pages.

I did almost that for several years in my 20's, except the 22 was a 22 WMR. Back then I had less money, but a lot more time to hunt, and shot more stuff with that combination than I do now that I am "better equipped".

How about 3 T3s? A 25/06,a 7 Rem Mag, and a 338! Varmints to Moose. Open country to dark timber. Even a Griz might fit in there some place.

I agree with 22lr, 30-06, 12 gage to do it all.

Maybe, but given the current availability status of 22LR, maybe a bolt-action 223 would be of more use, but only if you reload so you can load it down. I always thought buying a 22mag was silly if a reloader owned a 223 bolt.

i think .22, .243, and .260/6.5x55/.270 would be a pretty good combo for north america, as long as you didn't get into bears the size of a volkswagen.

There are two answers to this thread and none are wrong. smile

Real life answer. .22lr CZ 452, Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather in 3006, and a Winchester Model 12 12guage.

Actual answer nowadays. A .222 in a CZ 527, a 6.5x55 Model 70 Classic Featherweight, a Browning Safari in 3006, a Model 70 Classic in 338wm, and a 416 Rigby in a CZ550 for when I go to Africa for a Cape Buffalo.

I never saw the point of .222 until a friend gave me one to use for as long as I want. Crap, now I've got to buy one.

Actually just decided to pare things down a little this year.
I kept my .22 and 12 gauge and sold a few other rifles. I'm having a 6.5x55 done up and I'm spending money where I should have when I got started - glass.

I would really like a 9.3x62 someday though.

Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws.
