Glad the dog's gonna make it. Not nearly enough facts are contained in the story to evaluate the legitimacy of the perp shoot.

Suspect had a gun. Suspect fired the weapon. Officer Zeke got shot. Officer's returned fire. Suspect died. Happy ending. Of course some people here might think the cops shot the dog as an excuse to execute the perp.

well that's just the way it goes, the K9 in that working capacity is regarded as a fellow officer- as it should be.
yet bunny-huggers try to elevate any and every chipmunk, pig, owl , etc. as having "rights". [bleep] that

If it played out as in the posted article, it sounds All right.Suspect fired on police and is emerging from woods, weapon in hand, an immediate and obvious threat to society..
Au Revoir, schittbag.....
And it is apparent toad does not agree with a few of us, but I place a good dog's life as quantum leaps ahead of a criminal's life in value....

as a firefighter that has had to wear bunker gear resembling a bite suit, i can say the dog does not always go for the criminal and i learned to take a 'multipurpose' fire tool on jaws of life or MVA work.

toad, as you probably know the dog seldom bites a criminal, and if the LEO is following unit policy, a dog shooting is often the result of an ambush. ( The dog should not be released on an armed and dangerous suspect) In the event of an ambush, the officer is trained to take cover and attempt to recall the dog.As you also no doubt know, things dont always go according to the book......
