And I not turning my back on the .45,just want something different to play with....

I carried one of Springfield's EMP in 9mm daily for several years. It was very accurate & reliable. I prefer the JHP 124gr +P loads for 2 legged critters.

Doesn't get any better...unless of course it is a .38 Super 1911...and with just a barrel, magazine and recoil spring change one can can have both and a 9x23 Winchester all in one gun.

I just bought my old Kimber Stainless Target II back from a friend...here is a 9mm just like it....

..or if you like something Commander size...

..or add this to your favorite .45 Commander...

A few dual or multi-caliber 1911s...

Hard Crome 1970s CC with Caspian slide..

1951 9mm Commander with a Colt Super barrel off eBay that just dropped in and shot this group at 50'...

MK IV Combat Commander that will run 9x23/Super and 9mm..

9mm from the same gun...

70s vintage Combat Commander with BarSto Super and 9mm barrels along with a Pachmayer/Peters Stahl .22 Conversion Unit...

My first Super...a 1969 GM with an extra ROTO 4M 9mm barrel..

As far as feeding...they will eat anything but for target work I like the 124 grain FP from Hornady or the Berry's plated hollowbase flatpoint in reloads... "Vermin" wise, the CorBon 115s in Super or 9mm are sure expanders.

...this probably killed all your desire for one...overdose will do that....Bob

To me, I would always have a Super that has a 9mm barrel, rather than a dedicated 9mm. Practice with 9mm, then carry the Super. Now if you happen to have a 9mm that is 100% reliable, then the point is moot. But IME most 1911s will be more reliable with the Super because the cartridge overall length is similar to the .45 ACP, which the pistol was designed for. 9mm will sort-of work out of a Super magazine, but you really should have the dedicated 9mm magazines with the filler in the back. At some point, Ill add a 9mm barrel to my Super, but only after I get a 9x23 barrel for the Superthe 9x23 is such a bad-ass cartridge; so magnificently designed. 9mm in a 1911 is awfully nice to shoot though.

Good advice, however I'm not looking for a carry gun,as I have carry guns covered in XDS,Diamondback and 442. This will be a range play gun to run with my Glocks and other 1911's...

so far today,I'm found a Colt 5" in stock and Kimber is 2 months out on 9mm's,so I'm getting close...

As far as a "fun gun" the 9mm in a 1911 is a hoot. So very mild to shoot and the only one I owned was accurate enough for killing cans and busting rocks.

Oh, and STI makes a few of them too, that ought to work like a singer sewing machine.

...then I would recommend you buy the one on GunBroker that is posted above. These Stainless Target IIs are EXTREMELY scarce in calibers other than .45. I had a chance at a 10mm a few months ago and am still kicking myself. 9mm, 10mm and Supers are made in short runs and with the current situation there may not be any made this year as they are not a real popular gun.

Hate to say it but this gun will put a Colt to shame...and I have nothing but Colts and originally sold this one because it didn't have a Pony...just glad my friend sold it back to me rather than trading it in without telling me.

As to 9mm 1911s being unreliable...have only put maybe 1000 rounds of 9mm through my guns but they have had no issues what so ever using 9mm or Super magazines.

Springfield also makes a 9mm version of their "Loaded" model. I have a 10mm Kimber, and I think I'd rather go with a Springer or a STI in the 9mm.

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=333344968

I'd take a new Colt over any of them, but I don't think they have made a 9mm recently, just the Super - which is a fine cartridge.

It's pretty easy to convert a .45 Commander to 9mm, you just need a 9mm top end, mag, and slide stop. Lightweight Commanders make a neat platform for the catridge smile

Just me ... but I would not trade any one of my 9MM pistols for any 1911 9MM pistol.

(Walther P88-C, Walther P5, Beretta Brigadier INOX, Beretta 92SB Compact M, CZ 85 Combat.)

I do strongly desire a 1911 in 38 Super however.

Have been looking at the Sig P938 mini-1911 in 9mm. Same size as my Walther PPK but more power.

On my wish list.

Order an STI Trojan from Dawson Precision and don't look back. My experience with STIs has been they work very well straight out of the box and are a lot less expensive in the long run than converting another model. My current 9mm Trojan shoots groups like a rifle. Just understand up front that 9mm 1911s require well built 9mm magazines to function reliably.

Well....had a range date with my new COLT Government 9mm....
what a ball! Feeds everything, shoots to the sights and no hiccups!
Even ran a couple of mags of some +P's.The Colt mags were great,as was the Wilson's.
Did have a few casings back to the forehead on the last shot,on a ride by,I don't think that's a big deal.Few more rounds next week, ran short on time....but highly recommended!

I've finally decided I like mine, after fixing some areas that were poorly finished. It seems to run fine now, though I still need to shoot it some more before calling it ready for defensive use.
