What level of people would do this?

Quote
CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico police investigating a fatal traffic crash found that somebody stole wheels, tires and the battery from a wrecked SUV as it lay on top of the victim.

Carlsbad police say 26-year-old Steven Roy Reese of Carlsbad was killed either Tuesday night or Wednesday morning when he apparently lost control of his 1996 Ford Explorer on a little-used dirt road.

The Carlsbad Current-Argus reports the medical investigator determined Reese was dead for at least eight hours before police found him.

Police Lt. Jennifer Moyers says removal of the items was both illegal and extremely insensitive.

She says possible charges include theft and failure to give notice of an accident.

Last weekend, a family involved in a wreck on Interstate 40 wreck near Albuquerque lost possessions worth thousands of dollars after they say authorities failed to secure the crash site.

Just over next to Arizona. We get the spillover...

Almost no Indians around Carlsbad. Not that many "Mexicans", either. However, there is a lot of transient oil field trash over in those parts. Who knows?

Schit heads, however seem to be just about everywhere everywhere these days...

OK - tell that to the Hispanics. As for the state income level, stealing vehicles and/or the stuff in/on them is still big biz around the population centers.

Carlsbad population has changed the last ten yrs. Mostly non-english mexicans with fake green cards. Lot big oilfield construction projects going on. Even when I was growing up and Carlsbad was predominately white, it was a place you wanted to not leave your stuff unattended. Even at highschool football games the school bus had to be protected.

Good question - was sort of using that term as a mild joke, in that I do my best to belittle most forms of "political correctness".

When I first got to rural desert AZ in 1961, most were called "Mexicans", and some were "Wetbacks". Over the years, folks went through "Mexican Americans", "Illegals", "Greeners", "Hispanics", etc., etc. and who knows what terms are now in vogue.

Due to my profession, I have had wonderful experiences with almost every person of such ethnicity - very rewarding - and I find much to admire and respect in that which remains of the old culture. Of course, NM is much more steeped than AZ due to remaining families/influence of original explorers/settlers.

One downside, for me, is the ongoing influence and control by "Old Boy" NM politicians (some real crookedness there) and the worst downside (not due to old cuture) is the constant criminal element/activity that seems to come with any population center.

This is interesting. Over 40 years ago I met a fellow prof in Tucson who was/is an excellent artist/painter - a fine fellow who has gone on to be very well-recognized - and he told me about growing up in Carlsbad. I think that his dad was a teacher there. He characterized the place much as you do and said he would never have his family live there.
